... in different threads about teaching and accordions (well there WAS some a couple of days ago), has me thinking ... perhaps after retirement from the day job (in about 5-6 months), when I become 'a professional full-time musician' , I'll place an ad in the local paper and start teaching accordion again ... it would be interesting to see what kind of response I get ...

T, I'll be your first student what the heck I live just a few miles away

Tony, have you considered gigging with the accordian. I hear there's a bit of a demand here in Rhody and nearby Mass. Last summer a friend of mine drove to Falmouth to fill in for Joe Cerrito every Sunday afternoon who was vacationing. Apparently, the establishment had trouble finding a replacment out on the Cape and asked Joe to find a sub.

Tony - it would be a hell of a commute for one of us ... You pay the miles, I'll come to you ... ...

Steve ... I've thought about it, but not sure my back would hold up ...

Great Idea, Tony,

It's very gratifying to share our wisedom and expert knowledge when we have the opportunity. I'm sure it will give you much joy and satisfaction, just ask Uncle Dave!

Tony, many years ago I taught guitar – mostly to the advanced students who wanted to learn to master the instrument. Just recently I started teaching again. One or two students for now, I love it.

Tony,
More accordion players/enthusiasts makes for a better world.
Place that add when your ready. I'll donate to it!

You mention the ol back - maybe the ol box needs to be traded in for that 15-18lb Roland FR3 model that Squeak linked to.

The 1st couple of Roland accordion demos I came across did not do that box justice, but after seeing the Squeak link, and watching those 2 demo performers in the link, my thoughts on this reedless box are becoming more supportive of it.

Watch the 2 guys in the video, even internal B3 sound he used was not bad.
The mechanics of the box seem very good, the French player demonstrates that very well.

Select the video tab on the page.
Roland Accordion demo

Add a Ketron X3, X4 or midijay and your on top, dadio!

You'll give midi accordionist Eddie Monteiro, who lives out your way somewhere, some competition for "The Eastern Accordion King".
Eddie is no slouch. He's played for us in Chicago, in the past. Demoed a midi arranger model (Iorio i think it was)

Did I say Accordionists making the world a better place... You make the call!

MrEd ... thnx for the encouragement ... Buying one of those new Roland would be like getting a top of the line arranger ...
I will look into the demo videos ...
I don't think I've met Eddie Moteiro personally, but I've heard really good things about him and know some guys who know him also ...

bruno - When I was teaching it was mostly beginners ... One of the biggest thrills I had was conducting a group of 10 - 11 yr olds to a first place finish in a national competition ...
Great times ...

MrEd ... just saw the demo ... WOW ... both guys played very well, but the guy on the button accordion was amazing ...

Thinking back to my accordion days, we would play full classical scores - Beethoven, Rossini, etc. etc. utilizing the various reed sets to emulate the different pitches of the symphony orchestra instruments ... (even played in Carnegie Hall) ... I can see that there could be a competition 'class' for digital accordions using the orchestral sounds and actually sounding like a symphony orchestra ...

EXCELLENT DEMO

Wow have they come a long way with this wonderful instrument!! I think we might see a huge comeback soon also...! Maybe they'll add styles too? When he nailed the song "Czardus" a super difficult piece of music on Accordion or Violin a chill came over me ....OMG!!!!
I must try one.
