At $1,700 for the printer
Gar, not sure which printer you're referring to, by since your posting followed GlennT's about the Signature Z1, it gave the impression that the Z1 goes for $1,700. Not true. The Primera Signature Z1 (of which looks to meet my needs) goes for around $120 (street price), and the equivilent featured Casio brand unit, which BobL (mr82thebar) owns, goes for even less:

I swear I'll NEVER use stick-on labels on my CD/DVDs again because of all the problems I've had losing sensitive data backed up to CDs labeled this way. Initially my CD player would read them, but over time (after a year or two), I'm no longer able to get ANY CD-ROM drive to read ANY of them.
I've since learned that STICK-ON LABELS ARE NOT a good idea. Sure they're cheap but they can cause irreversible damage to your discs. Over time, they could peel at the edges creating tracking or read back problems. Secondly, if the label is not placed on the disc evenly, without any wrinkles or bubbles, your playback drive may not track properly. Forget about taking it off -- any attempt to remove the label will most definitely ruin your disc. And lastly, 12x speed (or higher) playback drives have been known to "dislike" discs with stick-on labels. That little amount of extra weight kicks the drive out of whack.
