On Sunday eve, I played a private outdoor dinner/dance for a group of about 50 friends over in neighboring Indiana. Very hot...very breezy and lots of bugs but we got through it ok...

Or so I thought...

Got to today's show...a Christmas in July party at a nice retirement community. The first sign that something was wrong was when I pulled up a registration for the "Christmas Song" and found it to be empty. I tried to load it again...and it still didn't work. I turned my Tyros off/on...tried a 3rd time...no luck.

This type thing had happened at another outdoor gig earlier this year but turning it off/on DID fix the problems and it behaved just fine. Of my 30 or so Xmas song registrations-two were still there in title only...the file had no registration load like they should.

Any ideas?

Now before you think that that's the end of my story. Something else happened at the end of the show...

I take you back to last night...I know I saw at least 2 very small insects crawl into the innards of my Tyros during the job yesterday. I presumed they would either drawl back out or just die. Well, at the end of the Xmas show today...I start packing up...I glance down at my keyboard and I see a cricket...

Yeah, that's right...a cricket!

It's climbed out from down below the modulation wheel and is looking up at me. I try to grab it...and it dives back into the inside of my Tyros.

I guess I'm a duo now, eh?

This ever happen to anyone else?

Can a cricket do any damage to the inside of the keyboard? Or rather, will he eventually just die from lack of food?

How hard is it to take apart the KB in the way I'd need to to find this little guy and send him on his way?

If you can help with either problem, I'd appreciate it...

(Honest to God, I didn't make any of this up, I swear...)

Put a Roach Motel on top of the mod wheel and hope he checks in!!
As for the Reg issue....why couldnt you use a backup internal HD, or floppy disc for the reg?

Donny-

I failed to mention I that I did try & pull it over from the hard drive. I had transfered over the files recently, so I wasn't surprised when it didn't show up there either...

Bill this is why a Laptop is imperative for backup. If needed you could have done the whole gig with it no problem.

Yeah, I saw the funny side of it, too. Maybe you could have done a Buddy Holly and the Crickets medley.

The cricket crawling out explains it all, he was the systems manager and went on strike.

Bill,

Insects inside a keyboard can damage the electronics, especialy if they happen to take up residence in the wrong place and deposit some insect droppings on a low-voltage circuit board. It doesn't take a lot to trash one of the ICs or chips.

Good luck and I have you get the varmit!

Bill. Hmmm. Perhaps your Tyros is smarter than you thought, protecting you from playing typically inappropriate songs for the season (summer). Seriously though, were you calling up the Christmas Song registration file from your Tyros' User Memory area, Tyros Hard Drive, or from a floppy disk? If you have the same "Christmas Song" registration file BACKED UP somewhere else (either on your PC or on a CD or another floppy diskette) I suggest loading that copy of the file to see if it comes up empty too. If it works fine, I suspect the regfile you called up during your gig may have just become corrupted for whatever reason.

Hmmm. Depends on what your cricket enjoys eating I suppose. Perhaps yours enjoyed a little Yuletime treat on your Christmas Song Reg. As far as the kb itself is concerned, the worst thing I suppose (at least from the cricket's pov would to get squished beneath one of the keys during one of your fast keyboard runs. Sorry, I just couldn't resist the sick humor.

I really hope your cricket's found another home by now.
