Here we go again folks. It's me once again being a "Royal Pain". Sometimes I wonder if it's just my nature or do I really have a point here. You tell me! As you all know by now, I just purchased a PSR9000, had it for a week, and loved it. Unfortunately, I've just discovered that it has the same problem that the 9pro had (which I owned as well and this was one of the reasons for which I sold it): The "Parameter Block" does not work! The manual's definition reads as follows: "This function can be used to "lock" the specified parameters, so they can only be changed via de direct panel controls (i,e., "not" via the Registration Memory, music Data Base, MIDI, Sequence data, etc.) To me, this means that if I want my "split Point" to stay the same regardless of any registration changes, all I have to do is "mark" the "Split point" parameter in the box, and forget about it, Right? Well, guess what? it does not! and the same goes for "Master EQ", and "Mixer Functions" and the rest of the parameters. (There might be an exception, and that's for the "Mic setup" settings, which I tried changing and they were blocked). I called Yamaha on the problem early this week and finally got a call from them yesterday. When I could not get anywhere with the tech support guy on this, I asked for the product Manager Specialist who happens to be Mark Anderson well known for his knowledge and willingness to help us, the customer. After a long discussion, and trying one of their KBs, he acceded to me that, indeed, there is a problem here. Folks, this bug is "systemic" with both the 9000s. And I know this, because, as I said, I am previous owner of a Pro KB as well. He said he will be looking further into the problem and seek a solution for it. If you 9000 owners have any doubts about this, please, do yourselves a favor…. go try it on your Kbs and you’ll see my point! And please joint me on this “crusade” to get this great (and expensive) KBs to the level they are supposed to be at. This is a very important feature that can be corrected easily with a an update from those “Brains” at Yamaha. The “irony” of this whole thing is that this problem does not exist on the “very inexpensive” PSR2000 which I also own. Go figure! Regards, Mario
PS. Isn't this systemic problem reminiscent of Ketron/Solton's Chord Harmony bug?... Boy what a "pain in the tucas" I am!

Dennis: Even though I am aware of sometimes being too critical about these machines, I am "flabbergasted" to find out how little people think about things that do not affect them “directly”, but in reality they turns out that they do get affected “ indirectly”. Why do I say that? The chief reason for which companies like Yamaha and Ketron get away with these deficiencies is "indifference" on the part of the KB owners. It's beyond me why this thread hasn't generated any "curiosity" on the part of the YK9 owners to at least look into their own KBs and find out what I am talking about here. As I said initially, this “Parameter Block” problem is "systemic" in all their machines; and yet, no one (except you) has had anything to comment about it. And then we wonder why, again, these companies get away with murder? Even If some of us never get to use all the features on a KB, it's the mere principle of companies not delivering what they promise in their designs and being held accountable for what they do not "deliver". I can't believe that the PSR9000 has been out for all these years and no one, repeat, no one, has either caught this bug or brought it up for discussion and, worst of all, is willing to live with it, without at least making Yamaha aware of it, or making a comment on this great forum. This is one time that I am glad to be a “Royal Pain” and that I did bring it up. Hopefully they will correct this for ”all” Y9K owners; and hopefully soon. Regards, Mario

Hi Mario
You have a top line kb with a nice key feel, great voices , a simple but dependable set of styles, good vocal harmony, very good buttons and eeeeeasy navigation. Try set your split point in B2 to accomodate the higest chord without inversion(Bm7b5=B,D,F,A).
Um abraço amigo Chico

Chico!..my great friend! I am the first one to tell you how wonderful these machines are. I am the proud owner of a 2k and a PSR9000 (former owner of a Pro). After spending over $10,000 US dollars in the last 2 years on Yamaha products, I think I am entitled to “bitch” about some of these “small but pesky” irregularities; something Yamaha refuses to recognize as being a problem to a “few of us”. To me is not the bug itself, but the concept that, if it doesn’t bother enough people out there, then the problem is “insignificant” and why bother correcting it; this bother’s me a lot. This being the reason of me trying to convince all the people in this forum that we should not remain stagnant when something like this happens; as it has in the past. . I, for one, need The “Parameter Lock” to work. Some of you don’t. That’s fine. This doesn’t mean Yamaha shouldn’t make an effort to correct the problem. This function was designed into the system for a reason; let’s get it to work as it was meant to do! Best regards, Your Boss nova loving friend, Mario
