Hi Guys-

I've recently added a PSR3000 to be a backup board for my Tyros. My goal is to figure out how to best get all my song registrations from the Tyros to the PSR as painlessly as possible.

From reviewing information on the PSR Tutorial and SVP World websites- it appears there's two main ways to transfer data back & forth.

(...Regardless of the option I choose-I'll be utilizing Mike's registration program-for which really greatful!)

#1)

...Purchase a Smart Media Card Reader / Writer and after converting the Tyros files into PSR 3k compatable ones...Save them with the Reader/Writer to a Smart Media Card. Then simply load the registrations after loading the memory card into the slot provided for the PSR3k...

#2)

...Purchase a thumb drive/flash drive (about 128MB in size). Save the converted registration files directly to the thumb drive...then connect the thumb drive directly to the PSR3k and access the song registrations from that...

For those who have travelled down this road before me...which option do you recommend and why?

I have a Smart Card of 128Mb in the slot in the PSR and it never leaves it, those things are too thin and fragile to mess around with, so I don't use a Smart Media Reader/Writer for the pc.
Instead I use a thumb drive to transfer files from the pc to the keyboard.

I also use the thumb drive for file transfer between pc's, so I don't leave it in the psr. And seen the prices for these things, don't go for a 128Mb on those, take at least a 512Mb or even 1Gig, enough space always comes in handy.

I make folders and subfolders and store everything in them on an empty partition on the HD of the pc, then drag it all over to the thumbdrive and from within the psr, move the whole thing to the Smart Media card. If you don't work with an empty partition, you can just open your thumb drive window on the pc and make your folders there and drag your files in it.

I use both options in my 3000, they work Great !!, but to me, appears to be even faster the Smart Media card than the USB Thumb drive, is like it´s integrate to the motherboard and no delay in registration, user style, reg & pag, etc. I use both, I have back up of the SM cards into couple thumb drives, I even purchase one of 1 Giga capacity, I got it in sale for around $60.00. I hope it helps.

PS : You can also connect the 3K to your pc by means of a USB cable and not use a thumb drive at all, but I never got around buying one that's long enough yet and for the Midi, it's connected with a Edirol UM-1X.

The best method is to place a smart media card in the 3000 and leave it there--just like having a fast hard drive. Then get a USB Pen Drive and copy the files from your PC to the Smart Media Card. That way you'll have a back-up if either goes bad, which both can.

Keep in mind that both the Smart Media Card and USB drive have limited root directories, therefore, it's a good idea to place those files in folders and you will not run out of space.
