Tony,
I have never had a popup or spyware on this site or others either because my Earthlink ISP does not allow it.
$21.95 for 24/7 and no limitiations. DSL a tad more check it out. They are the second largest ISP in the US today behind only AOL.

Google toolbar has free pop-up stopper that works great. But, I've never had a pop-up on this site.

Maybe you want to clear your cache, delete offlines files and delete cookies from your browser.
Might have some left over from other sites.

Actually this is my office PC... I know we have some software to protect us from this stuff and I can't really download any 'outside' software ... It's just that I've never had the problem before, and I don't have it at home (I HAD to say it, didn't I ), so something must have changed here ... I'll keep checking with the in-house techs ...
As always, thnx for the feedback ....

Tony,

This site does not have any popup. Therefore, what is most likely happening is there is some spyware on the computer you are using. Please download the latest version of ad-aware, spybot, spywareblaster; Then after installation, make sure they are all updated with the latest databases and then configured. Then run them and clean those evil programs away.

Tony,

I can almost guarantee you that the pop-ups are coming from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). I've never had a single pop-up in all the time I've been visiting this site.

Good Luck,

Gary

No. Synthzone.com does not have any popup. You got spyware/adware on your pc. Blame yourself, not Synthzone. (And rush to www.lavasoft.de to get yourself a nice free copy of AdAware :-)

It's harder to instruct someone online, so here goes...

Any kind of pop-up blocker software, including the Google pop-up stopper, will only block the stuffs coming from the visiting website, but if the pop ups orginated from inside your PC, Google will be helpless.

So, how often do you get these popup? Do you get it while visiting a website? Or it just pop up as soon as you open a browser windows (the latter is more serious)? I can go on and on to tell you what to do, but maybe it's best if we go from step to step.

Definately no pop up's on Synthzone. This is one of the very few FREE places on the net that does not bombard us with advertising. Apart from the musicians friend banner there ain't nothing here.

Some progs, even MSN messenger generate their own pop ups. Look carefully at what software is running. Usually GAIN or or Gator which come with freeware or shareware. Pop up hell!
Best wishes
Tony

Just before I left the office one of the techs told me he was going to have me run "spybot" tomorrow ... We'll see what that does.....

Tony,

I use AdAware, Google Toolbar, and Spybot. So far it seems to work very well to make sure that no ads or other windows pop up to annoy me.

I am sure that Spybot will be helpful to you; however, I don't think any one free program today is capable of everything, so you may have to put on some other tools as well, if the problems do not go away.

REgards,
Alex

Alex... I ran spybot this AM and it seemed to help ...it 'caught' a lot of 'stuff' I did not know was there...

As I said in an earlier post, this is the PC in the office so I am limited to what the staff techs will allow me to do, especially when it comes to downloading software ....

rhumba ... I will double check to see if it happens as soon as I open Internet Browser ..

The strange part was that the pop-ups appeared more on this site than any other which is why I asked the question ... But perhaps that is because S-Z is the first site I come to after our company's intranet page opens ...
thnx agn,
t.

You suggested that SZ caused you to see a lot of popups. "Anyone else out there experiencing a LOT of pop-ups on this site lately?" - So I pointed out that SZ was not the problem. And added one of the good answers to it. You're welcome.

Burkels ... I'm not going to get into a p*****g match over this, but I did not intend to suggest that S-Z CAUSED the pop-ups ... I was just defining a situation ...
And when I said I got a lot of good answers, it was all inclusive...

Tony, in case you run out of option to exterminate those pop ups, let me know and we'll get to the bottom of it.

Synthzone is very clean. Banner is a good thing because it helps the website survive. If you visit S-Z and get a pop-up, your "PC" is pretty much "infected", require step-by-step deletion of folders and registry key.

I can't brag about my music playing ability, but when it comes to pop-up, nothing can get by me ...yet. This is what I do for a living (I mean, to earn enough $$$ to buy my gear)

rb .... thnx ... one of the in-house techs has been working on this on and off today .. we found a fair amount of 'stuff', including the fact that "Lycos" had found its way into my pc without our knowledge ...
We dumped the 'stuff' we've found, so hopefully we're eliminating the problems, if only one step at a time ...

There are some ads that are very evil! You thought you see a webpage with an alarming message, it has buttons like "cancel", "ok", etc. But the whole page was actually a picture and whatever "button" you clicked on meant "yes" - and that's how things got installed on your PC.

Glad you had someone there to help you out.

BURKELS --

It didn't appear to me that TONY MADS "suggested" that the pop-ups were the fault of SZ (or anyone else) only that he was seeing them while on this site. It can happen very easily when they are already in your computer. Maybe you could have been a little more helpful - rather than harsh - kinda like everyone else.

Oh right. Now it's my fault. If everyone learned how to write questions properly, we wouldn't have this kind of conversation at all. Again: He asked it we too had popups ON THIS SITE. He didn't ask how to get rid of popups on ANY site. That's where the misunderstanding started. Nice to see how people will respond days after someone else said the same thing, so I can re-write my answers over and over again, causing threads to get longer and longer for no reason at all.

By the way, I replied: "No. Synthzone.com does not have any popup. You got spyware/adware on your pc. Blame yourself, not Synthzone. (And rush to www.lavasoft.de to get yourself a nice free copy of AdAware :-)

Wow! That's harsh! I'm even the ONLY GUY here that gave him a direct LINK to the site where the solution to his problem was! Darn! Won't ever do that again! Terribly sorry to be too helpful, ehm.. harsh, I mean.

burkels ... I want you to know I hold NO hard feelings, and I appreciate the help you and others gave ... I think it was your statement "Blame yourself, not S-Z" that some, including myself felt was somewhat harsh, since as I said earlier, I didn't blame anyone, it was just coincidental that the pop-ups appeared on this site, and hardly at all on any other site ... I can't explain why, our in-house tech couldn't explain why, (except for ANY or ALL the reasons expressed above)..... it JUST HAPPENED !!!

vc .... thanks.....

to ALL: . Thanks again for all your help, ... it appears that (at least for now)the problem is over ... and as for me, so is this thread...let's go back to making beautiful music... and BTW .... my kb is better than yours!!!
