Hi ScottY

Still thinking about getting the Tyros. But have a couple questions I thought you might be able to clear up regarding the YBTYROS case and the one you got, the KKP9KB.

I noticed someone on Tyrosworld stated the Yamaha YBTYROS case was lighter than the Kaces Porter III, although he didn't mention which model. I also corresponded with someone who got the YBTYROS case who was dissapointed that it was heavier than expected (he said 18 lbs.). I know you also said the Kaces case was considerably smaller in size compared to the YBTYROS case.

I am wondering if you were able to test the weight of the two in question here, and if you could supply me with the external dimensions of your KKP9KB case.

As always, thanx much for the input.

Hi ScottL,

The Kaces Porter III (KKP9KB) weighs in at 17 lbs. I actually think the weight of both the YBTyros & KKP9KB cases is about as light as conceivably possible for a strong foam frame case which includes thick padding as well as built in wheels for convenient transport.

The exterior dimensions of the Kaces Porter KKP9KB is: 48" x 19" x 9". I can't remember the exact outside dimensions of the YBTyros case, but I remember Yamaha Corp telling me it was approx 4-6" longer in both length and width.

The KKP9KB interior length fits the Tyros perfectly, and its interior width allows me to keep the Tyros satellite speaker brackets attached (after easily removing with a hack saw) the imho useless plastic speaker bracket protrution section. The KKP9KB interior width is not sufficient to keep the music stand bracket attached to the Tyros. I don't know for sure, but perhaps the larger size YBTyros case would allow you to keep both the speaker & music stand brackets permanently attached to the kb. Since I never use the cheesy Tyros music rack, I chose the slightly smaller & lighter KKP9KB for $99 at my local music store. My only complaint with both the KKP9KB and YBTyros cases is that don't include a retractable handle like on the earlier model Kaces Porter with wheels Cases. Other than that, I'm (so far) very satisfied with my Kaces Porter KKP9KB.

I think that you won't go wrong with either the KKP9KB or YBTyros cases.

Scott

I personally think the Kaces Porter III which I have is much to heavy by itself and thats a 61 note size.
It adds too much weight to the total weight pkg including the KB of which people are always complaining about transporting KBs as it is. Yes the case is well made, but now your light weight Tyros, PA60 or whatever has become a Psr9k weight wise, imagine a 76 note version!! Im gonna look for a rugged LIGHWEIGHT case this time around with my G1000...maybe a Pro Tec or something similar.
Just my opinion but who am I ? :>)

Hi Dnj

If you or anybody else can find a case thats smaller in size and lighter in weight with wheels PLEASE let us know.

ALSO, seeing that the soft cases that we are aware of so far are both about 18 lbs, I am wondering if the hard case YCTYROS would be worth considering. Does anybody have the inside and outside dimensions and weight of the YCTYROS case or any other hard case that would work?

I also play trumpet, and I would never dream of hauling that around in a soft case. I think the hard case would be the preference with a keyboard as good as the Tyros but only if the dimensions, weight and cost make sense.

Thanx

Hi Donny & ScottL,

I agree that finding the lightest (yet strong with sufficient padding & protection) case possible is #1 in my book. I checked out the ProTec Cases as well and they are even HEAVIER & larger. Having wheels built into the case makes it a lot easier to transport and worth the added weight imho. After doing considerable research, I'm convinced that the Kaces Porter is probably the lightest & smallest case (with wheels) which also provides adequate protection for gig transport. The lighter weight bags (soft thin foam padding only) don't provide adequate protection or strength to support the KB in my personal opinion. On the other hand, All the hard cases (SKB brand, etc) I know about are a LOT heavier than the Kaces Porter III case. Just my opinion. - Scott

Hi Dnj

I saw one, I don't remember what model. I guess it would have been the one for the PSR2000. Way big and heavy. Also, there was a strap on the inside with velcro to belt your keyboard down. My concern here was that it pushed some keys down with the belt and didn't think that was probably the greatest thing to have happening.

The Gator bag is saw in the store reminded me of the Kaces III porter. I guess its another "PERSONAL" choice as is everything we discuss, buy, and play here on the forum. We're all do it different, theres no Right or Wrong when it comes to your own happiness!
