Ok, I'm truly impressed with Tyros' "new" mega sounds, but . . . Does the new Yamaha Tyros (or Yamaha 9000pro) allow you to independantly 'freeze' just the 'left voice' instrument part? I need to be able to quickly select different styles and then select any one of its 4 associated OTS (one touch) setups, but have the 'left voice' remain on the 'acoustic piano' patch, even though the OTS 'left voice' setting may be different. One thing I really appreciate about MY specific Yamaha PSR2000 keyboard is that (thru a lucky (for me) early version OS glitch: a bug?), I'm able to achieve the above. As a pianist, I usually comp (piano style) with my left hand, so need the 'left voice' to remain on the 'acoustic piano' patch most all of the time. Unfortunately, the current PSR2000 OS version, no longer allows you to freeze just the 'left voice'. The ability to independantly freeze just the 'left voice instrument part' has become a critically IMPORTANT feature to me when performing. Does the Ketron XD9 or Technics KN7000 support this? Am I destined to playing my 'early version' OS PSR2000 forever? I hope someone can provide feedback & information on this. Thanks in advance. Scott

HI: Scott It was very nice talking with you this afternoon on the phone. Well you thought I should try to explain the Freeze Function of the 9000 PRO. I have know idea how to do that. But anyway after are talk I played around with it some more, then got the manual out & Dadgum it works like the manual say's. If you want to lock the Left voice go to the Freeze Screen & check ACMP. this will also lock the style from changing with the Memory Registration's, BUT you can change the style by going to the Presets, or Flash Style's & changing them there. If you want to lock the Right voice's put a check mark in the voice box on the Freeze Screen page, But this lock's all 3 voice's from changing, & here again they can be changed by going to the preset voices & change from there. In the Voice Set Screen putting a check mark in the Voice Box of Right 1, Right 2, Right 3, Left, determines if parameters like Release Time, Voice Octave, Poly/Mono, Portamento Time, Harmonic Content, & Brightness, change or not when you change Voice's. I hope I have come close to explaining this so somebody knows what I'm talking about because I don't. (he he he) But I still LOVE the 9000 PRO Denny

Ok, here's the latest in the continuing saga of: "The Mystery of the Left Wing Freeze" It appears, after my telephone discussion with Denny, that both the Yamaha 9000pro (current OS) and also the PSR2000 (at least on the older OS version), that the left voice setting is stored in Registration Memory Contents in the 'style (acmp)' section, and NOT in the more expected location: 'voices' section, where the Main (rt1), Layer (rt2), and Left voices are stored. This goes beyond conventional wisdom, but hey, I guess Yamaha is not conventional (how boring), but because of this, it IS possible (as Denny attests) to freeze 'just the left part' by simply selecting (mark the checkbox) the 'style (acmp)' in the Freeze Window and turning ON the Freeze button. I tried this on my kb and it WORKS on the 2000 too. YIPEE What's interesting is that even though you are supposedly freezing both the style (acmp) and the left voice, you effectively really only freeze the left voice, because when I then select another style from the Style section, the style changes (along with new Main (rt1) and Layer (rt2) voices, but the Left parts remains unchanged. I'm of course estatic that it is possible to freeze the left voice part on both my PSR2000 & 9000pro now. I wonder why this was not covered in the manual whatsoever ! I had thought (just rumor?) that the PSR2000 newer OS version moved the Reg Memory Contents: Left Voice storage location from being stored in the 'style (acmp)' section to 'voices' section. If that really is the case, then I'd suspect that the left part freezing would not be possible on later PSR2000 models. Perhaps this OS update change never really took place?! Anyway, I'm beginning to feel a lot more confident (crossing my fingers) that the Tyros will work the same way as the 9000pro and PSR2000 (my OS version) in this regard. If so, I'm definitely going with a Tyros, a logical upgrade from the PSR2000 (though still a terrific keyboard which I'll keep as a secondary kb for small venues where built in speakers are required). Thanks to Denny Starry for helping me solve this issue, and helping me finally figure out that the PSR2000 does support freezing just the left voice in the SAME way the 9000pro does. Life is good (for today). OK, Danny, gonna take my hand out of the freezer now. ouch ! Freezer burn
