Anyone have any great ideas on how to SAFELY ship a Honer D6 Clavinet without it's original lid/cover? This puppy has to travel over 2000 miles, and I've heard enough horror stories to make me do some research first.

Now taking all ideas .... thanx in advance !

Hi UD

I understand some of the guys have been using bicycle boxes. They are sturdy and about the right size. So, check out your local bike shop

Dave

When I sold my Genesys Keyboard I had the same problem.

I built a box from a Refrigerator card board and bought dense foam blocks to protect the unit. A little imagination will get you a long way. Oh I bought the foam from a local Fabric store.

The shippers want you to double box it. Pack it good in one box then put that box inside a larger box surrounded by 2 inches of foam. That's what I was told. I had to ship mackie subs that way from NY to Texas weight, over a 100 lbs each.
Or you could take it to a pack and ship place like The UPS Store costs a little more but sometimes the cargo is worth the price, buy the extra ins that makes them responsible.

Dave,
I did some research today for you re shipping this Hohner to you.
I have a neighbor that owned a cabinet shop until he retired. He now has a small shop at home and I have had him build me cabinets for my house and he is good and he is reasonable.
I told him today about the Hoehner needing a top cover made for it that would replace the original. He says he can do that but not sure he can find the mating hardware that holds it onto the keyboard.Might have to put new hard ware halfs on the keyboard or he could just screw it onto the keyboard for shipping. it could be furniture grade top or just plain shipping top that you could cover with fabric like it originally came with, with attaching snap hardware or just screwed to the keyboard. Your dollar so your choice
He is recovering from open heart surgery now and can't do it before about March. He has to get his doctors and his wife's permission. He is still in therapy at this time. I asked him to stop by the studio at his convenience and give me a ball park figure to send to you. I will keep you posted.
I thought I had it covered as I have an armored case but it is 4 inches to short to get the Hoehner into. Darn
thats the latest from my end.
Let me know if you are interested in this solution.
