MFX Styles is a MIDI plugin (MIDI effect) for Cakewalk Sonar, Music Creator and compatibles. It creates automatic accompaniment in the track that it is applied to. To accomplish this it uses styles that are compatible with the styles used in Yamaha keyboards.

The accompaniment is under control of style commands that are placed in regular text events in Cakewalks Event List editor. They determine what style to use for accompaniment, what part of the style and what chord.

MFX Styles will add the accompaniment events (notes, patches controllers) to the track. After this the track can be played.

Yes, as long as the styles are in Yamaha format. There are various tools to create these type of styles. One Man Band is one of them.

hi jos, i just had a look at this on your website...i am not trying to be "smart" but to what purpose would you use this over OMB? isn't this just like making a fixed length song? so in essence just a midi file? the advantage as you know, with an arranger is that you can play the song for as long as you need....

A lot of OMB users make an arrangement in OMB and then finish it in CakeWalk. And a lot of Cakewalk users would like to have auto-accompaniment but won't bother to learn using another sequencing platform.

MFX Styles is aimed at those two groups. It's about sequencing, not real-time playing. The three most requested options for OMB in the last 5 years were VST hosting, a plugin version for Cakewalk and a Mac version. Two out of three ain't bad. The Mac version will have two wait for a few years.

I agree completely that having the ability to use arranger styles as a starting point within cakewalk is a great idea.
