I just spoke with the portable keyboard product manager at Yamaha and he's still expecting the first shipment (don't know how many) within the next week or two.

George is that when you will get the Tyros in or are you talking generalities? I heard that Guitar Center will have the Tyros in on November 22nd and you can pre-order right now at musicians friend.com Btw, I would never order "buy" one before I actually sat down and played it in person To each his own I guess.

thanks,
Terry

"within the next week or two" sounds like a generality to me!
I'll be glad when the durn things arrive so everyone can stop worrying about 'em.
Maybe by the time they get here, at least some of the Beta testing will have been done by our European Guinea Pig friends.

The Tyros is pretty scarce in the UK at the moment.

The rumour is that there is a problem with it & that Yamaha are holding back.

I don't personally know what the problem is but I have heard the word crashing being put about.

A short US arrival delay (a week or so as George mentioned) is understandable (especially because of the recent dock strike), but to now get word from US dealers saying that Yamaha (at the last minute) has informed them that the Tyros now isn't arriving till 1/10/03 (2 months from now) sounds highly suspect, especially because the Tyros is ALREADY available in Europe. It will be interesting to find out what's REALLY going on. Who's telling the truth? Are some of these dealers just jerking us around to drive up the excitement & hype (to keep Tyros prices up) or are all these last minute delays all coming from Yamaha Japan? Johnnie, I'm beginning to suspect you may be on to something there.

Don,
now more than ever I am glad that I don't own a Tyros (I don't think I would like being called "Guinea pig").

Well if it is true that they will be delayed until January, then I don't get it either...if George has talked to his solid contact at Yahama and the guy tells him, "in the next couple of weeks" to say that, they would have had to of been in transit already on the ship.

So either he was lying to George or Japan lying to him. Secondly I don't understand what could possibly be so wrong that it would take a couple of months to fix considering it is out in Europe already and functioning without any reports that I know of crashing or problems.

Something is wrong with this picture, that they would miss the biggest buying season of the year....xmas.
hmmmmm,
Terry

Andrea,
LOL....yeah, that could be a real slam against an Italian huh? How about we call you Italian stallion instead?

Yes it is out in Europe or was.
Go into any dealer in the UK & order one then ask when you can have it.Answer! They can't say.
I can't say how true the rumours are exactly but you know how it is they are not usually there without some sort of fire.

Of course I didn't mean any disrespect. "Guinea Pig" is a common phrase in the U.S. that describes someone who is, often unknowingly, used as an experimental tester. I often forget that such slang may not be known or understand by different nationalities. A Guinea Pig is a small rodent-like animal that was (maybe still is) used by scientists for experimentation.
Back to the subject: it has been my experience that Yamaha Japan does not communicate fully with Yamaha U.S. Our guys here at Yamaha U.S. seem to be caring, sincere and well-qualified, but they are at the mercy of the honchos in Japan.
That's just my impression, but it's one developed over years of "wait and see" answers after owning approximately 12 PSRs.
Most likely I won't worry about it anymore, since it is not my plan to buy any more, unless they come up with something that it far better than the other companies' offerings.

Don,
of course I was making a joke (see the blinking eye?) and I know very well what a Guinea pig is (I am ashamed to say that when I was a student I have "worked" with all kind of rodents...) :-(
Nonetheless, "Italian stallion" is definitely better... Do stallions test keyboards?

Don,

This has been my experience as well, ( far less PSR's than you but still the same experience ). I'm out of the PSR market too, except that I might pick up a used one that has been " battle tested " at some point. Then again maybe not, if I can live with the XD9. It's too bad too, because there are certain things that Yamaha arrangers have going for them that others don't. Today's marketing pressure seems to dictate that the rush is on to get the product out there, or promise to get it out there, before it's really ready to go. Those of us that have been around these boards have all seen this before, and it isn't just Yamaha. Korg shot themselves in the foot with the PA80 by releasing it with an OS that had almost nothing in it and was hard to operate in it's early releases. It got a lot better as the upgrades were released, but a lot of players were already turned off by the board and had already sworn off of it. In all that though, they never addressed the one flaw that they KNOW we were unhappy about ( The 2 fills per style and lack of smooth transition in some styles between variation and fill ) .

Another thing that becomes an issue for me is that Yamaha knowingly targets their arrangers at the home market. I don't care at all what the opinion of another player is as to what boards are "pro" or not, but I have to wonder when the company does it if it affects the way they treat the customer of the board... It never should ( a customer is always someone putting food on your plate ) but, my experience with the 2000 led me to believe that it does.

Yamaha must be punished. I shall skip the Tyros, keeping my options open for future developments.
If you have stock in Yamaha, please consider selling because my decision may well cause it to drop drastically in value.

Yamaha US knows nothing about all these rumors (if that's what they are) of any known holdbacks of shipments because of problems. It was news to Yamaha when I spoke with them today. Tyros is on their way here to the US as I type this in. If there is anything that would keep Yamaha from selling these units, Mark Anderson in the PKB department would or will hear about it, but as of today, he has heard nothing but that they are coming.

Thanks George,
I don't mean any harm or disrespect. I just enjoy a little Yamaha-bashing.
I hope they arrive today! The checks in the mail!
