Would it be practical to transfer midi files from my computer to the 3K? Would it be easier and quicker to access them from the 3K? Right now they're in my laptop which is connected to my 3K.
It works fine the way it is but, I'm just wondering if it would save me time when doing a gig?

I do this all the time by using a thumb drive.
A tag will come up"USB1" when you connect it to your 3k.
Just tab across to it and the files will open up.
Hope you enjoy this facility as much as I do.
I take it your laptop has a USB port.

Well ..... use an internal drive if you want to save time and bulk.
The laptop offers superior song selection, and helps plan the event. I constantly look at the clock, and I make notes about the party ( Best man's name, parent's dance etc ) and keep them posted in a folder for quick reference.

Daves right, stay with the laptop connected to the 3k for SMF & Mp3/lyrics playing, that combo is hard to beat........unless you use a Midjay!!!

Why aren't you guys working?

We do have to be careful when using our laptops at the clubs...Clubs are getting sophisticated these days..They are using computers networked..
Last night , a glitch happened...while playing back a sequence from my laptop..slowing and interrupting the sequence..

I have a wireless connection built in my laptop, and without me being aware, it downloaded an windows update, and installed it...this would have been fine...but it decided to reboot to complete the installation...That is right...in the middle of a song being performed..This all runs in the background and is not brought to my attention..

Another problem because of wireless connections...Google desktop apparently decided to index my files..It messed with my VanBasco player..that never hiccups..It drove me crazy...I thought it may have been my Hyper Canvas and KeyRig wave tables doing it ..so I reverted back to the MS wavetable...same problem...It was the indexing running without my awareness..

Morale to the story...turn off the wireless in the clubs,,,They are getting to advanced..
But it is nice to check my email or go on line from the stage ..once in a while..

Yep......I"ll stay with that set up.

By the way, DNJ, the X stand with the mike and computer set up you sold me is working out great.

My laptop has the same setup, however, to prevent such things from happening, I merely disabled the wireless router. Nothing to it--no problems.

Gary, I will disable it tonight..

I don't need to replay mp3 or other audio files, I only replay midi files. The 3k does a perfectly good job of playing midi files and displaying embedded lyrics, and can easily set up the "next" song whilst you are playing the current one. Not as good as a full playlist but then my partner and I change our minds about the best "next" number about three time in each song anuway so this is not really a big issue!

With 128 meg on the smartcard (so thats conservatively about 1000 songs) and anything you like externally (shall we say a 1 gig thumbdrive, or over 8,000 songs) I would personally just use the 3k on-stage and forget the laptop, as this would be one more thing to go wrong.

I agree the laptop has other uses, but I don't think they alone justify the extra complication or expense.
