It Was pretty scary,

We live about 2 hours south of the center of the earthquake.
The house was shaking quit a bit, but thank God nothing broke and no injuries.
I have my Mackies SRM450 up on a stand all the time, but they were quit solid.
My Keyboard was shaking more.

You'll never know when it hits and how bad it'll get.
I was prepared to take the Mackies down in a rush.
I live in Ventura, 30 Miles south of Santa Barbara. My Wife called me imediatly from work to see whether I'm alright.
She works for a retirement home and it seems that it was quit a bit stronger there.

Everybody was shaken quite a bit.
Makes you remember "How fragile we are" as sting says it.

Hi Tony,

to make our CA gang complete:

SBPC Paul Curzan from Santa Barbara

George Kay from Reseda North of Los Angeles

Nigel from Ventura

I think a couple of our friends from Silicon Valley

This is pretty scaring happenings that we
in our region have no experience about.
Only see it at TV and hear by Radio etc.
I really hope noone are seriously hurt or
damaged.
Best regards

I believe Scott is in San Francisco which is pretty far from where the earthquakes epicenter was so I don't think it was felt much that far away. I felt it here in LA but it certainly wasn't anything compared to what I felt when the big quake in SF happened. For those near the epicenter it must have been awful.

Hi all. I'm glad to report that everything's fine up here in the San Francisco Bay area, because, as 'Ensnareyou' pointed out, I'm quite a distance (250 miles) from the epicenter of the quake. On the other hand, Synthzone buddy, Frank Bez, who lives in Pismo Beach & very close to the epicenter, experienced a terrible jolt (to say the least). He was caught in the basement of a public building which had no windows and subsequently no light (as a result of the power outage after the quake), but thankfully able to get out safely. He arrived back home to find his front door blocked by a fallen object. He told me (by phone) that even though things were strewn about, the worst damage to his property was that a key on his Technics KN7000 keyboard got broken by a fallen object. This just goes to show where our priorities are as musicians, right? I'm just happy that he wasn't hurt and that damage to his property wasn't worse. After living through the 7.1 magnitude San Francisco 'Loma Prieta' Quake of 89 (I was seriosuly expecting the building I was standing in to completely collapse), and the numerous other smaller tremors that occured since then, including one felt last week , I have to admit, I'm feeling a bit shaky.
Living in California all my life, I've learned to prepare for an unexpected earthquake but when a BIG actually hits, it can still be scary. I hope the injury & death toll (currently 3 people) in this lastest quake does not rise.

Donny (and all). Thanks for your concern.

- Scott

WELL, I’m not much of a rock and roll guy. But, this was more of a swing and sway quake. A piece of cake as compared to my previous experience. I lost one wall of my home that time. Fortunately no one in my family was hurt except my sweet KN7000, which was head butted by an antique Mexican sculpture that had been sitting on the top of a secretary next to the keyboard. Miraculously the dozens of other fallen objects didn’t break or damage anything.
Happy Holidays to all.
Frank

Like Scott, I am totally fine. I didn't even feel it since I was in the parking lot at the supermarket loading groceries into my car. A LOT of people here near San Francisco DID feel the quake. I was actually felt from south of Los Angeles to north of San Francisco. That is a HUGE area.

I'm glad to hear Eric & Frank are okay. I would guess Nigel & George Kaye are alright as well. It is scary when these things happen. I, also went through the big 1989 quake - and that one took me one year to get over.

Let's hope everyone's holiday is peaceful and quiet from here on.

Yes, it was a long slow rolling quake here in Ventura. While it went on for a long time it was nothing like the Northridge quake which was a lot closer and was much more violent. But it must have been scary for those living closer to the epicenter like Frank.
