Back during Christmas my friend's brother was hitting a bunch of buttons on my Ensoniq TS12 and he made it so EVERY SINGLE PATCH has portamento and pretty much acts like a square or sawtooth synth. I can't figure out how to turn it off. I would just restore the keyboard to the factory settings but I bought the TS12 off of this other guy who had loads of really cool patches configured and the settings were just right, and I really don't want to lose all that.

I would contact your seller. Even when I send along all the software for a keyboard, I still usually have a backup on my hard disk, sometimes for years. It would be worth a try.

There's got to be a "utility" menu or some type of global menu... this may take you to where you want to go .....

I've set up my Ensoniq SD1 to see whether I can reproduce your problem there, but nothing doing.

So I've downloaded the TS12 manual and looked for Glide and Portamento, and all the settings I can see are specific to voice or sample settings, nothing global at all, so that's no good either.

The keyboard isn't stuck in a voice edit with Glide set to Mono or MiniMode is it? Although I'd have thought that would get reset if you powered off.

Could all the voices have their Glide control set to "Pedal" - if you plug in the sustain pedal does it work like you'd expect or is it turning glide on and off?

After that I fear it is reset time. You can save the settings and voices to floppy or sys-ex can't you - although if this glide issue is some hidden system value it might just come straight back again!

If the keyboard is not resetting after power-down, could it be the "WakeUp" setting?

Wake Up mode is on the Third Page of the System menu. I'd set it to "Default" which means it should come up set to Program Bank U0-0 (according to the manual!)

If every patch sounds the same...

Perhaps your guest has already reset the keyboard. Perhaps there is a default patch in every slot that sounds the same.

But if you DO manage to get it back, a 'backup ALL' would seem a good idea, no?

...however, i dont know how to save everything properly. i wanna make sure all my presets and sounds are saved, i dont really care about my sequences because i never use them ever. could someone assist me? thanks!

Saving stuff to floppy isn't too tricky.

You need Double Sided High Density 3.5" disks, i.e. standard PC floppy discs. However that the TS12 floppy disc format is not compatible with PC's so I'd start with a fresh box of reputable unformatted DSHD floppies and I'd format them all on the TS12 before doing anything else.

I always have "Keyboard Naming" turned on (third page of the System menu)

The "Storage" section of the manual covers things; I'll try to summarise.

To get to the "Disk" operations menu press "Storage" then "Disk".

The disk menu has all the facilities you'll need.

To save - click "Save". On the save menu you have to select the type of information that you want to save. You'll be saving "120 Programs" "120 Presets" "60 Seq/Songs" and "System Setup". You may want to save "SysEx Banks" "Sample-Banks" and "Sample-Edits"; you may need a stack of disks for the Sample stuff!

So to save each type of info, use the "File Type" button to select the information to save, then click "Save". Confirm this with "Yes" then you'll have to enter a filename and reconfirm.

When saving sequences yuo have the option to embed the programs within the sequence data. This can be good if you change voice in support of a specific song / sequence but in your case don't bother!

System reset is usually only available via odd combinations of keys, as noted here: http://www.meetnewplayers.com/bend/resets/ENSONIQ.htm

The problem you're having doesn't sound right! There shouldn't be a "global" setting that would apply this effect to "every patch". This is something that would be "patch specific".

I know you have loads of data from the previous owner, but you really need to do a system reset!
