Glenn, the keys look short to me...[pics]..


You can bet, I will be G70 fan someday[since I have not played one yet, it will have to be someday]...I can not imagine that I would be disappointed, since I like the previous models features leading to the G70..

I do like the VA series sounds[stereo samples], but across the board...I still prefer my G1000 for many bread and butter sounds..They sound so realistic to me, that I don't see me parting with the G1000..I have owned 3 VA-7's , and the G1000 has outlived them..

My DisCover5 also has the same sounds as the VA series, but what makes me so high on the DisCover is the Harmonizer and other great features...that make it a keeper for me...
I can in vision that the G70 will probably take the place of this combination[G1000/DisCover5] someday..but for now there is absolutely nothing I miss with this combination..

It is true that the factory styles are better for the most part , then the G1000 factory styles....this means absolutely nothing..as I always say, a style is a style..They are easily replaced in Roland keyboards...Right now I have the G70 styles in my G1000..they are my go to styles.

What I think is going to be the hardest to replace , is the performers ease of operation that the G1000 offers[to me]..

For many G1000 owners , maybe the VR760 organ feature found in the G70 alone, may be worth the change...Roland's draw bars are the best hardware organs...period..

For now I am a happy camper with my antique G1000 and unwanted[according to sales] DisCover5..

I have played the G70 and as I said above I thought it was not worth the upgrade.
Yes it does have some good sounds and some decent styles, but when I thought of how easy the G1000 is to use and that it still sounds decent to say how old it is, the G70 didn't grab me by the balls (pardon the expression) in order to purchase one. The Tyros 2 did manage to grab me so that now sits above my G1000 and Korg Triton.

The demo by the way had a great Dixie style and was a good rendition, but the brass/trumpet sounds were very poor comparing them to the Tyros2.

I liked the first demo. As stated by another member it does have a nice dixie feel too it.

However the second demo doesn't really impress me. I don't know, maybe it's me, but the demo sounded to 80's to me. I don't think it showcases the G-70's true abilities.

I don't think 80's type demos on today's keyboards don't really show what a keyboard can truly do.

The reputation of the G-70 still suffers from the unfortunate birth and the unfinished early versions of the instrument. In my opinion several statements like Craig's are coming from people, who base their statements on experiences done with the early versioned G-70's. That has become the unfortunate destiny of the G-70. Nevertheless, I think that Niels's demos obviously show that the current version of the G-70 is back in business! I respect that people think that Tyros2 solo sounds are better than the G-70 solo sounds. But within my ear the G-70 outcompetes the Tyros2. It is interesting that we have so different opinions regarding sound... You might find this webpage interesting. Here I have gathered opinions about the G-70 for a while.

My next door neighbour has a G70 with the current version and he's actually selling it so he can get a Tyros 2 instead, so as you wrongly put, I have not heard the older G70 it is in fact the new one and judging from the demos that have recently been posted, the new release still makes it sound terrible.

Some people sell their G-70 to get a Tyros2 and some people sell their Tyros2 to get a G-70. Why? Because we all think differently regarding "what sounds good".

It is impossible for me to comment on your experiences with you neighboor's G-70. What I CAN say is that I have heard several musicians, who hadn't been able to get anything out of their G-70's! Their instruments sound like sh..

However, the musicians, who have the skills to the master the G-70, can certainly make something out of the instrument And "yes" - the G-70 is definitely not an OTB instrument! People who haven't got the technical skills and/or the time to work with the G-70 are often turning to the Tyros2, because it plays right out of the box, which is BTW a great characteristic for an arranger! Roland could learn a lot from Yamaha regarding this!

The Tyros is a very good instrument and so
is the G70. And there are more good key-
boards. Why allways those negative comments?
Cann't we stop to criticize each others instruments in this way?
It becomes to be predictable, intelligent
musicians don't do such things.

Excellent demo's. Really enjoyed the rag (oh when the saints) and for the life of me cannot understand the criticism of the second demo soundng "too 80's" ? It was an eighties song for heavens sake and a very good rendition of it at that! I know.... I was an eighties child

With regard to the my keyboard is better than yours nonsense we seemingly get preoccupied with on here I am sure it is because we have to justify (to ourselves at least?) why we just spent a small fortune on a particular brand/board. It's childish and boring.

As others have often said, make your choice on what works for you, then go play it and make beautiful music. After all whatever you buy and however much it cost you, the end result should be about the music not the process of making it. (Not that I am saying we can't all learn from each other there.....but why can't it be in a constructive way?)

I have heard demo's on here played on budget instruments that blow me away. WHY? Because the music is what was important and you can always tell when someone is showcasing their passion for music as opposed to their equipment.

Use the tools you feel comfortable with and don't forget why you have those tools. The board does not make you better....YOU make the board make MUSIC.

We SHOULD be celebrating the talent each of us have and what we can learn from each other to make us better musicians NOT trying to score points about who spent the most and which brand is better.)

Apologies Niels for slightly hijacking the thread but it really comes to something when people post to primarily criticise your choice of instrument and fail to comment on your demos or even respect the fact that you took the effort to create them and to share them with us. Don't be discouraged and keep them coming.
