Does anyone know on the PA 80 Jazz flute, which parameter I would have to turn down to take a little bit of the "breathieness" out of it, it's just a bit over the top for me.
I've tried several of them and can't seem to find the one to tweek,

Try working in synth edit screens 7 and 11 in the program mode. I was able to reduce the amount of the breathiness and or increase the amount of velocity required to bring it out. I adjusted the Trim levels and freq A and resonance A in screen 7, and I also played a bit with the filter eg attack levels in screen 11. There is probably more that you can do too to help filter it out in the other screens, so just play around a bit.. I love to be able to do synth edits, but I'm not great at describing them. I started doing them in the old analog knobs and button days, and often I didn't pay enough attention ( and still don't..lol ) to what particular parameter I was editing, I just like tweaking knobs and stuff til I got a sound I liked..

Ok Terry,
I worked with it some more, and after fiddling with it I wasn't too happy with the way it sounds, so I tried a few other things as well. I think the breathe noise is right in the sample itself, so really the adjustment I did aboove had the effect of just be dulling the sound and the eg so that you don't notice the breathe noise as much. I tried some other things and it is still there, but much less noticable. I mixed the regular flute sample with the jazz flute sample, adjusted some synth parameters to brighten the regular flute sample just a hair, and made a new user patch, and that worked pretty well too. In fact I like the sound I got quite a bit. Still has some breathe, but not like it was before.

About the only thing I found of much value to tweek it, was the FX on page 19. By toning those down some and changing the send level, it backed off the air a bit. I think you're right though that it's in the sample itself and for all intents is untweekable.

I should have figured as much. I got a very cool sounding flute with less breathe by mixing samples, but I guess really it wasn't a true jazz flute anymore. Hopefully the new OS will come out very soon and you can sample or import a better one from somewhere else.

Hallelujah!! Finally, someone brings up the matter of this peculiar flute sound on the pa80. Now, I suppose that playing technique might reduce the breathy sound, but come on Korg! This is ridiculous. It sounds like someone with a pronounced lisp, hissing and sputtering into a flute.
PLEASE, Terry or AJ, can you possibly save your modifications and send them to me? Or, tell me exactly what you do to make the sound better. As it is, I just avoid using it since it's so extreme.

LOL ..If I only had a brain sometimes..I don't recall everything I had done nor did I save it ( except of course the new user voice itself that I made which still needs more work ) I'll try to work on it again tomorrow to see if I can come up with a better sound. I'll be happy to send whatever I can come up with Tom, but I'm not sure if it it will end up sounding like a real jazz flute anymore. I'm pretty good at making whacked out but useable synth sounds, and sometimes editing electric guitar patches, but acoustic instruments are definitely not my forte. Nevertheless, you're welcome to whatever I can come up with out of it.

Here's what I did to help tame it. Not perfect, far from it, but it helped. I agree with your assessment of way over the top for the breathieness of it.
Anyway:
Program>choose jazz flute>menu>effects>then play with both of the effects, changing types and lowering the send levels which is way too high on both.
The first FX "revsmthhall" give it way too much air which compounds the breath and the send level at 75 is way high. If you pick a different reverb here, it really drops the echoishness of the sound or no reverb really flattens it and you could add reverb back in the final mix.
The second fx L/C/Rdelay (left center right) then adds even more by bouncing the sound around and doubling up on it.
