Synthzone friends & Steve Deming (Yamaha USA):

Believe it or not, after having ignored the erroneous (sent by mistake) W-9 request form I got with my Tyros 'return shipping' reimbursment check I received from Yamaha USA back on Oct 18th, today in the mail, I received yet another (form?) letter from Yamaha USA, Michael L. Dantziger, Director of Corporate Taxes, requesting that I complete the encloed W-9 form and send it back to them. I attempted to clear this up today by telephone (NOT a toll free call), but just ended up getting transfered from one dept to another, and by endless answering machine messages as well.

I hope Steve Deming will read this and can get this obvious Yamaha 'screw up' cleared up for me. I've send him a separate email as well. Please help !

Scott

My guess is that the accounting dept just needs to justify a payout. It's subject to income tax no matter how you look at it, so just send in the W-9 and claim it as income. You still get to write off the $85 you paid to FedEx so it's a wash.
I can't see how it can hurt you, Scott.

I am NEITHER a vendor or seller of any goods or services to Yamaha USA. I spoke with my tax accountant, and he assured me that this is 'not' income at all, but merely a reimbursement (receipt provided), and most definitely NOT subject to income tax whatsoever . . . period!

Steve Deming called me on the telephone yesterday to inform me that he spoke with Michael L. Dantziger, Yamaha Director of Corporate Taxes, and he has assured me that Yamaha will no longer be sending me those erroneous W-9 form request letters. Steve, many thanks for getting the problem resolved so quickly. - Scott
