NO, no, no ... I have done everything everyone has suggested. I have permanently uninstalled my VSC-3.2 synth, leaving only the resident Sigma-Tel driver. DirectX 9c is/has been there.

I'd pull my hair out, but there's none there to pull. Somebody help, PLEASE!!!

As far as I can see One solution only:
Fresh install of windows.

To avoid same problem or to nail the problem;
1. Fresh install of windows XP
2. Update to the latest windows XP
(including media player,direct X graphic drivers if needed etc..)
3. Install CPA 9
See or the problem has gone.
4. Install the other audio and midi software and after each install restart and see or CPA 9 still works.
Once the problems come back at least you know what's the cause.

Allthough a bit time consuming still faster as looking for a problem which can't be traced.

Fresh reinstall of XP will not solve the problem,, it will just create serious downtime, the fault is related to Cakewalk, so uninstall the program, restart the computer, then follow this link to download a program called Reg Cleaner, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html run the program, follow instructions to clean out old registry entries, then restart your computer and finally install Cakewalk.
Create a system restore point before running Reg Clean.
Hope this helps.

Bill, I downloaded RegCleaner and I couldn't decide to eliminate any of the items in the registry. I don't know what to do with it. I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Cakewalk.

I have a week to solve this. If I don't I will be doing a job with different software. Power Tracks may finally make the starting lineup.

Remember, when I installed Home Studio 9 I had the same problems. The frustrating thing is that to my knowledge nothing has changed with my sound set up to cause this problem. The only other music type activity is ripping CDs to my mp3 player, and that's working fine too.

????
He is now facing this problem since 11/22 (see his other thread)
What do you mean by serious downtime??

A fresh install of the O/S takes an hour at the most, then if you have the updates ready add another hour and your done...

I agree it looks like a CPA problem but you won't find it with a mixed up registry unless you have weeks of time available.
Let alone the frustration. (;

By the way forgot to mention.. If the problem is there wright after the fresh install ,(so after point 3. mentionned) install again the O/S but then without service pack 2 update and try again.
Don't try to fix it at this point!
That's useless...

Fred

OK guys, I have one more question. What about OTHER configuration settings in Cakewalk. I have 4-5 other besides AUD:

cakewalk - CW9AudDX - TTSSEQ - waveprof

There is a midi in/out activity monitor on the bottom toolbar. It doesn't close when Task Manager closes Cakewalk. I have to reopen CWPA or open a midi in Media Player or something like that for it to close. This is why I suspect a value in a config setting - it only applies to Cakewalk, not any other program that plays midi. If you want to continue this thru email, please do.

Reg Clean
If you set a system restore point before you run reg clean, then if it goes wrong you can get it all back, however as reg clean backs up all the files it deletes, you can put them back from within the program itself.
As to what to delete, on the main page select all entry’s that relate to programs that you have uninstalled, (Uninstall Cakewalk first) and remove them. From the tools menu choose “do all” option, and delete all that reg cleaner shows restart your computer and then install Cakewalk.
For home users 2 hrs or so with the loss of computer use is ok, but when your computer is your living, or part of a network, then 2 hrs is serious downtime, and is to be avoided if at all possible. (Administrators will know that keeping the system up and running until the working day is over is paramount, and managers get very annoyed if you don’t achieve this)
Hope this helps.
