I try not to react to flames on the various Forums I frequent but I have to react here
Personally, I hate to hear (or worse see in print) phrases which are used as easy ways out of having to think too hard.
I have always felt ashamed of not being able to choose words or phrases which uphold the beauty of our given language.
Anger or discontent sometimes engender such phrases in the mind but isn't it more satisfying to leave the common phrases in the mind and think of a more appropriate phrase which you just know would have pleased your English Teacher?
I'm with Simon on this one and I congratulate him for his timely words.
