After I purchased my PSR2000, I had to, of course, get a microphone. So, I ordered the Vocal Kit (thanks, George Kaye). The kit includes, not only the microphone, but also a floppy disk from Yamaha with a dozen songs. These songs all have lyrics in them, so, as they are played, the "singer" can see the lyrics right on the PSR2000 screen. Now, I can't sing worth a hoot, but I, nonetheless, found the vocal harmony a lot of fun -- with no one around, of course. My wife can sing, the kids can sing, and I bought the mic primarily for other "singers" and would like to have some other "songs" available. From the manual, I believe I can add lyrics to a midi song, but I think that method might be very labor intensive. Can any suggest a source where one can download midi songs that have the lyrics in them?

this is my first post!

i'm into midi-karaoke, i've been using a Roland SC-8820 for 1 year, and a Yamaha PSR-510 for a while( i'm actually trained to play guitar and sing and no i dont gig because my health is an issue), i'm now looking to upgrade and the PSR-2000 sure looks like the best bang for the buck right now !! for me its karaoke feature and harmonisers are very important.

as for the midi files with lyrics you can use .kar files easily available on the net then convert them to midi with lyrics with a small freeware called midi-converter( doesnt work all the time! ) or use GNMidi, which is very good for this use.

Thank you so much Louis-Simon! I visited your site and downloaded the player program and your songs. I just tried playing one of the songs from the Beatles group with the Van Bosco player and it worked like a charm. Tomorrow I will look for the midi converter program you mentioned. By the way, congratulations on your first post. I read this forum regularly, but don't often post since I don't really have the knowledge or expertise many members do, but this response marks my 32 post. Thus, your 1st post has helped me move from junior member to member!

MIDI/KAR update: In looking for a midi-converter, I found the Midi Karoke Library:

Karaoke files are simply midi files with lyrics added. If you would like to play a .kar file with your standard midi player simple change the file extension to .mid and viola it's just a regular midi file that pays the same as any midi file. As a matter of fact to might be surprised to find lyrics in some of the midi files you already have.

With this in mind, I made a floppy of Louis-Simon's "Beatles" songs, changed the file extension to "mid" from "kar" and took the disk to the PSR 2000. All the files (except one and I'm not sure why the exception) played fine AND showed lyrics in the Lyrics section and music and lyrics in the Score section. No conversion needed.

Out of curiosity, I took the floppy back to my PC and renamed one of the files back to "kar" from "mid" and then tried it in the PSR 2000. Thus, the PSR interpreted the "kar" file as one with lyrics, but when the file is renamed to a "mid" file, both lyrics and score are shown.

Thus, with all the "kar" files all over the internet, PSR 2000 owners have a huge library of songs to choose from for playing lyrics and/or music.
