Can anyone tell me the differences between the PSR8000 and the PSR2000? Thanks!

the psr 8000 was made about 4 years ago. It was the flagship model for Yamaha. Big and beautiful! However, the sounds, styles and features are not as current as the lower priced PSR2000. The solid build of the PSR8000 would be the only feature not found in the PSR2000 and the ability to put an optional hard drive inside the keyboard. Other than that, I would rather own a PSR2000 today than the PSR8000.

Look at it this way...The 8000 is like having a 98 Cadilac and the 2000 is like having a 2001 Cavalier[and not a z24 model]..

I'm not that up on cars ... i understand lexus to yugo or jag to honda ... but 98 cadilac to 2001 cavilier is hard for me to picture.

Cars are good for analogies. I think a more accurate comparison would be a 2002 Maxmia (good looks, full featured, current, though not a luxury car) versus a 1996 Infiniti Q45 (top of the line luxury car, but dated). Keyboards age more quickly than cars....new models also appear much more often.

In any case, the PSR 2000 is an excellent keyboard. Voices and styles are top-notch, and the sequencer is quite powerful.

Did I read that Don M had reverted back to using his psr8000 over his 2000? I have only played either board once and am not up on yammie stuff but I thought it interesting that Don, a pro player, would go back to the earlier model.

Btw my car is a ford probe 5 years old and they don't make em no more which is a travesty imho but I would not swap it for a new 'ordinary' car. Same thing I guess... if you like it keep it!

When I did my comparison I decided the biggest "bang" for the buck was the 2000. I am very pleased with it.

I don't know if Don was referring to Speedy Mouse but I would like to be able to turn off my voice and just hear the mouse.

There is a feature list of the PSR series and when I went through it the features I wanted were covered with the 2000. If I wanted to go the next set of features it would be the 9000 (probably PRO) over the 8000.

I have both, and I prefer many things about the 8000. The 2000 has some newer sounds and has 4 variations on the styles, where the 8K has only 2.
I like the way the registration memories work better on the 8K. It also has much better sound from the internal speakers, it has a very stable music rack, where the 2k rack falls off easily.
You have instant access to three lead sounds on the 8K and all three can be stacked. Only 2 on the 2K. The octave shift buttons are easier to use on the 8K. The 2K as a data wheel and 8K does not.
The construction and key feel on the 8K is better, but it weighs just a little more.
The 8K has three footswitch inputs, the 2K only 2. The 2K has RCA outs, the 8K has loop send and return.
The Vocal Harmonizer is easier to use on the 2K, but all the presets do not work correctly. (You can search for all my comments on this subject if you're interested).
The 2K has a Break Button and 3 intros and 3 endings, the 8K has no Break and only 2 intros and endings. However you must PRESELECT which intro or ending you want on the 2K and your preferences can only be saved if you save the entire Style to User Memory. Since no hard drive is available there is limited room for storage except to floppy disk on the 2K.
The 8K has aftertouch and sampling while the 2K does not.
There are other differences, but these come to mind quickly. Although the 8000 is several years old, it is still a great sounding and very useful keyboard.
I will be selling both sometime before the end of the year, but right now I'm using the 8000 five nights a week, and using the 2000 the other two.

Let me clarify--I'm using BOTH keyboards, one at one job, one at another. Tonight the internal battery on the 8000 failed and I lost all my information. I guess it was about time since I guess I'd never replaced the battery. Of course I had it backed up, but still had to take time to reload and re-tweak everything.
I must agree the 2000 is probably the best buy for the money ever. Remember it was less than half the new cost of the 8000.
I like 'em both, for different reasons.

You say you are going to sell both boards before the end of the year. Does this mean you have your eyes on a new board? Maybe even the Tyros? When the tyros is out in the UK I am considering trading in the 6000 and getting a 9000 pro. Hopefully the price will come down because of the Tyros. I know you have owned most of the top end boards over the last couple of years so would be very interested to see what you have in mind

I will most likely get either Ketron XD9, SD1 or Tyros. I'm not in a hurry, but either or both keyboards are now available for sale. I just need to change by the end of the year for tax purposes.

I've played the PSR8000 even though I have never owned one. I play the PSR2000 professionally. The PSR2000 is a fantastic board.

I am surprised that someone would use the PSR8000 professionally instead of the PSR2000, but I guess it depends on how you use it.

I don't think I could make a living with the PSR8000 the way I do with the PSR2000.

I'm a 2000 owner and I've never played an 8000 but I went throught this debate myself. You can download the manuals for both keyboards from Yamaha, which might help.

My conclusion was that the "extras" on the 8000 (aftertouch, extra lead voice, hard disc, sampling) were outweighed by the 2000 being newer, having more variations, and being more portable. As I didn't see myself using sampling (and I dont use vocal harmony yet) then the hard-disc unavailablity on the 2000 was my biggest debating point but the floppy-swap operation on the 2000 is pretty quick and I have no regrets in choosing the 2000.

No-ones mentioned the sampling capability on the 8000 so far - does that mean no-ones uses it?

I just use it for gag stuff. Same as the Sqeeky Mouse.

My kids Love the speedy mouse on my 2000. If it was up to them all of my songs would be sung through it. Although my youngest still prefers Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I downloaded the manuals as MacAllcock had suggested before purchasing my 2000. Look at the basic comparison list as well. It always goes back to what you are going to do with it.

From what I could remember, the PSR8000 only had 2 variations....Or was I wrong? Anyways, I have the psr2000, and it's been a dream machine for me. Now my X1, Pa80, and I30 are sitting collecting dust. Anyone interested??????????????
