How "new" is this little sucker?

The PSS60 is from 1987. The sound source was from the Yamaha FB-01, 4 operator FM synth. The Drums were PCM based and the source wave data came from the Korg 707 drum machine IIRC.

It sounds interesting really. How would one compare the tone with todays gear.

On the keyboard museum website its introduction date is given as 1987. Iv'e no doubt it's a nifty and still-useful tool to have around, but it seems a bit odd that the seller on ebay has this 'last one left in the warehouse'. Did someone lose the key to the place 18 years ago?

What about the Ketron Midjay,thats new !

1980's electric piano sounds (DX7ish) OK.
Percussion organ sound with ZERO effects OK.
Slap bass sound OK.
Pretty much everything else, umm...no.

Drums; If you are going for that old school lo-fi sort of muffled cymbal sounding kind of drum kit OK.

The PSS60 was OK back in the late 80's when it appeared on the market. And for someone wanting to re-create sounds from that era, it would be a nice thing to have. But it by no means can compete with today’s technologies utilized in products like the Midijay, Genesys XP, etc. Granted the newer instruments are a bit more expensive.

Well Manic - This little bit of crap has been very useful to me. I got one when they first came out and still have it.

I used it with an M1 at the time and, as it had the colour and the same styling, people thought it was some kind of M1 expansion unit. You don't have to use the little keyboard as you can drive it via midi.

I mainly used it with just the drums and bass as the accompaniament and arpeggiator sounds were really cheesy.

However, it allowed me to use an M1 as a kind of arranger at the time.
