Tommy,

I'm glad you weren't offended. I wasn't trying to offend. Your efforts are way better than anything I've done lately or maybe ever for that matter. I wish I had your abilities. For some reason accordion players are very fast on the keys. When I was in the organ business many of the company reps were former accordion players and they were all super fast on the keys. Please keep doing what you have fun at doing. What I or others think really doesn't matter.

Tom

That was cool. i enjoyed that a lot.
I love fast technical playing; but I like it the way Oscar Peterson does it. Man, he can fly, but he can take it easy too. I would have liked to hear a little more diversity in each chorus; a couple blazing fast choruses, another laid back chordal or legato chorus, etc. Give us just a couple memorable lines; a phrase that catches the ear. Sort of an "oh, I can't wait for midway through the 3rd chorus where he does this" sort of thing.

Now, where can I buy some good jazz accordion? What are some artists I should look into? I have banjo jazz, mandolin jazz, fiddle jazz, and even pedal steel jazz (real jazz, not texas swing). Where can I find accordion jazz? I love jazz in general, and jazz performed on anything unusual, (not sax, piano, etc) really catches my attention.

Hi Tommy,

Gosh, great work! Most riveting interpretation of Summertime I've heard yet. Splendid stuff...

Cheers,
Rich

No doubt, as Tommy said Art Van Damme.
Another of my favorites is Frank Marocco. So many good tunes accross many albums, but I really like his latest CD, APPASSIONATO.

Alain Musichini is another favorite of mine.
Check out his full-song samples (Nice variety) http://perso.wanadoo.fr/musichini/album4.htm

A local Chicago Accordion Club guy with a very nice CD is Mike Alongi. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/alongi

Rory, you mentioned you like some of that speed too. Listen to Pasqual Coviello. http://www.pasqualecoviello.com/

Hi Tommy, imaginative rendition of a Gershwin classic. I love fresh approaches to classic pop and yours definitely hits the mark. I even liked the unusual (wacky) percussion sounds. Kind of reminds me of classic bandleader Spike Jones music. - Scott

Yeah, he is great. But another name comes to mind, an accordeonist I think from Dutch origin who went to America and called himself Mat Matthews. Do you know him ?

tommy ... nice job ... great technique ...
.. makes me want to pull the old box out from under the steps and see if I can still play anything on it ..
... another jazz acordionist I like is Tommy Gumina ... he did an album with Buddy DeFranco that's really nice .. http://www.spaceagepop.com/gumina.htm

... and does anyone remember Milton DeLugg??? http://www.spaceagepop.com/delugg.htm

I used pitchbending on the accordeon, but it wasn't good for the reeds. I wonder how this special accordeon handles this. I'd like to try it, but I doubt we will ever see this accordeon in my country as Jazz on accordeon is unknown here.
