Hi - I'm using Sony Sound Forge 8.0 --- I connected my va-76 to my computer via USB Uno Midi cable:

in order to record stuff to my computer from the kb.

I went: Tools > Sampler
I configured the midi output/input devices, pressed ok, then pressed Get Sample.

In the lower left corner i got a Cancel Button and a thingie showing " Receiving 0% " ... it will stay like that all day long - what should i do in order to properly record stuff from my kb to my pc.. ?

First suggestion would be to ditch the MIDI cable. Use audio cables to hookup the audio of the keyboard to the audio inputs of your computer's sound card... MIDI has no place in this. Once you get the audio setup correctly, press Ctrl-R or use the transport controls to start the recording process, not the sampling process.

i paid over $50 for that cable...i told the guy from the store that i wanna do recordin with my kb and he gave me this cable -.

Actually, the use of a MIDI cable is applicable when using the Get Sample function found under Tools>Sampler. However, there are a couple of problems that I see.

The Get Sample function of SoundForge is for transferring raw sample data from a sampling keyboard or module into the computer for processing. The VA-76 does not have the capability of transferring raw sample data as far as I know. The Roland website does not specify whether or not the VA-76 has sampling capabilities, but even if it does have limited sampling abilities, that is not what you want to do anyway.

SoundForge is an audio recorder/editor. As Esh suggested you could connect the audio outputs of the VA-76 to the audio inputs of the computer and record what you play on the VA-76 in real-time as an audio file into SoundForge. Since the VA076 is an auto-accompaniment keyboard and has some sequencing abilities as well, it would make sense to do record the keyboard parts of the song in the VA-76 itself, and then record the playback of that song into SoundForge as an audio file, adding vocals or other instruments at the same time. Then you could burn the completed song to disk.

The Uno interface will be useful if you want to do more advanced sequencing by using your computer and appropriate software in place of the sequencer built into the VA-76.

Ok - i went to radio shak and bought an audio adapter ( gold-plated Stereo ) and 2 audio cables. I inserted the audio adapter into the rear of the computer in the " Line " thing. then i inserted the 2 cables into the adapter - after that, i inserted the audio cables into the VA-76's outputs - Output 1 R - L/Mono.

Configured as it says on the website, went into sound forge..clicked file > new > ok > pressed record button - played something and it doesnt work.


it only works if i plug in the microphone and record myself using the microphone which is ..retarded...so please help me ! i got the usb uno midisport cable and this one too and i cant do anything with either one of them..

no offense, but you should try harder to figure out the mechanism by your self in order to achieve a (good) result working with the keyboard and computer.
please check the www.tweakheadz.com site for instance, a very detailed guide for using midi and audio.
they are all different principles.
to record from any audio source (keyboard's line out, cd players, mic, etc) into the computer, you don t need a midi cable, but a simple two stereo jack cable.

yeah - i just followed directions and it doesn't work so...my point is...why is Sound Forge recording only by microphone ?

When you connect the keyboard to the computer using audio cables, before you record, do you hear the keyboard through your computer?


Also, make sure that your computer is set to record using your sound card’s line in.

You can check this by going to start, programs, accessories, entertainment, volume control.
When in volume control, go to properties. Select your sound card and go to “adjust volume for recording”. Make sure that the box for line in is checked.

yeah before i tr to record i play a few notes and i can hear em through my computer's speakers..i think it's just sound forge that's not working...you can only record stuff with soundforge using a microphone

I'm not that familiar with Sound Forge, but I know for certain that you can record direct with it and not have to use a microphone. As the previous poster suggested, go to the Windows volume control, make sure that the mute button in the "line in" box in is not checked ON and that the volume slider is not down to the bottom all of the way.

You also need to go into the drop down options menu in the windows volume controller, select options, then "adjust volume for recording " and make sure that the record option is checked in the "line in" box and that the volume slider isn't all the way down ( assuming hopefully your using a line in port and not a mic in port from your kb into your sound card ).

The other possible problem I can see... Sonar would not work properly with my internal soundcard at all... until I added the freeware ASIO4all generic ASIO driver to my system. Even if this isn't the problem, if you are going to be using your internal soundcard ( I don't really recommend it ), you might want to add ASIO4All just to reduce latency and have a better set of drivers for your card.
