You give a prospective venue a CD with demo's. They could toss it. Or they could assume many things about you that could be in err... and not in your favor.

If you offer to audition, to play a set for free or maybe an entire evening, they have your smiling face, audience interaction, all the good things about live performance. Basing their conclusion of the real you.

Just wondering if you guys think it would be beneficial to do this versus hand someone a CD.

Live audition makes it happen

Wouldn't a live audition on DVD be easier for all concerned?

It makes sense unless one had an agent,eg ,that was busy talking you up at several venues at once. Also, since copies are cheap, once the master is done, the two approaches could be used together.

IMHO there is NOTHING like a live audition ... I feel that part of what we have to offer is our personality, and you can't get the feel of that on a CD or even a DVD ...

eg: Do you wanna taste the food or look at a picture of it? I wouldnt risk my business or customers on a DVD, CD, Video, or any other possibly doctored media..... lets hear & see what ya got live & I'll tell ya if your hired bottom line?

Most owners/managers are busy and will toss or lose a demo long before they get to see it. They won't go see you at another gig even if it is next door. There is so much competition for the gig the guy that takes the extra step gets the first call.

Definitely live verses demo. Another word for demo is demolition.

Live works for me. I send out lots of CDs, however, the best job getter out there is when someone see a live performance and evaluates you as an entertainer. You just cannot do that with a CD.

Many business owners are gun-shy of Live Demos as some of the acts they see are terrible and in many cases the owners throw them out after just 1 or 2 songs. I think the demo sets the bar, and a follow-up "audition gig" is the best way to go to give the business owner a comfort zone.
