I noticed that after a few minutes of playing my PSR3000 there is a tremolo effect on ALL the voices. It doesn't sound to bad on the piano voices, although noticeable, but the sweet saxes are horrible. If I power down and re-start, the tremolo is gone. After anywhere from two miuntes to 20 minutes, it's back. I tried a factory reset on the user effects, but there was no change.
What a disappointment.

Starkeeper,

Pack up the keyboard and return it to where it was purchased for an exchange. This sounds like a serious mother board problem and the keyboard is still under warrenty. I know you have been waiting for a while to get the keyboard, but these kind of problem, though very rare, do occur. Take it back and exchange it right away.

Could it be the modulation wheel is accidentaly moved during play?

It would have to be moving WHILE the notes are played, correct, not just moved slightly once?
I am not moving or using the mod wheel during play.

No, if you move it ONCE to increase modulation, it will continue to modulate at that rate until it is moved back down. Thus, if you are hitting that wheel somehow, it could easily be the problem. Else, yep, ship it back. At high modulation, it sounds like tremelo.

Move it all the way down and play, careful not to hit it and see if your board does it again.

Starkeeper,
Move that mod wheel up and then down to the off position. If you still hear the modulation then yes return it.

The mod wheel doesn't have to be moving when the notes are played. You can move it up just so slightly, and leave it in that position and the effect will be applied to that sound until you bring the mod wheel down to the "off" position.

Learn something new everyday. I will try that before returning it for repair.
Thanks for your help.

Starkeeper,
So what happened?
Did you double-check that mod wheel?
The far-left wheel (pitch-bend) returns back to center on its own but the mod wheel does not.
The sounds you described has happened to me many times because of the mod wheel being on (rolled towards top of the keyboard).

(Woops... Just saw your post now. I was posting at same time)

I will be much happier if this is a dumb user (me) error rather then a hardware problem.
I rarely use the mod wheel.

I agree Don. Especially if you really don't use the mod wheel. When I lived in Mesa AZ I had a buddy who played (Suzuki's) top home keyboard for the time, it had a mod wheel--which he never used. He called me up at 11pm and said he spent the last 3 hours trying to figure out what was wrong, and almost packed the thing up to return it. Turns out it he bumped the mod wheel, and since it wasn't a feature he used, didn't think to check it. That's another reason I like the joystick better.

I actually taped down the Modulation wheel on my PSR-2000 since I never used it, and it was annoying to hear modulation whenever I would move the wheel by accident.

I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this, but Yamaha changed the mod wheel functionality on the PSR-3000; I do not tape it down on my PSR-3000. The difference is that on the PSR-3000, the mod wheel has no effect on sound until it is moved from where it was at power-on. Try it and see for yourself.

Starkeeper,

What's the verdict with the 3000? Was it the Modulation wheel, or was the keyboard defective?

Inquiring minds would like to know!

Good Luck,

Gary

Gary,
It must have been the modulation wheel.
Now that it sounds right, he can't tear himself away from making music ...

Probably hasn't slept yet either

Hahahaha. I've been playing up a storm. I was on vacation for a week, so didn't see these posts.
IT WAS THE MOD WHEEL.
I am a happy camper. Thanks ED, Ian, Squeak, Semi-live.

Paint a little white dot on the wheel (if it is black) or black if vice versa, and it becomes very easy at a glance to see the wheel's position.......
