I fully agree with you keeping equipment that is still extremely useful but has lost resale value. It is more valuable to keep instruments to use than to get a few $s on the second hand market. It is only worth selling when you can get at least 50% or more of your original investment back. Otherwise keeping them is the most sensible option.
I see you are based in Sydney Australia. I recorded music around NSW back in the 80s and spent some time at EMI studios in Sydney and stayed out in Whale Beach commuting into Sydney each day. Great place but I hated the traffic driving over the bridge in the mornings.
