Hello all,

I am getting into production (hip hop) and in addition to purchasing the MPC2000xl, need a keyboard. Right now I am considering the Kurzweil k2000RS, and the Korg Triton. Also on the list is the Yamaha EX5.

I am interested in having a complete workstation and not needing to upgrade anytime soon. If anyone has in depth knowledge of how the mentioned keyboards stack against each other, or even other synths I might be interested in, please let me know.

also, the Triton i am thinking of is the Triton Pro. I dont figure to need the Pro X and the standard Triton is too little. So 76 keys, if at all possible (for your suggestions)

Really the Triton is just such a great workstation with all the right sounds for the styles of music you want to produce!

I wouldn't consider the EX5- sure a great sounding synthe but with too many bugs and sluggish timing response. Also way underpowered as a sampler and a very low scsi load time.

The Kurzweil is also a bit dated now. When I say dated I don't mean to imply this is a bad board at all- the Kurzweils are super powerful (more powerful syntheis than Triton) but limited in terms of polyphony and fx. You can upgrade it with the sampling option and add extra RAM etc but it will end up costing you a lot more than simply getting a Triton with SCSI card (and you MUST include the MOSS board- amazing sounds and power for whats on offer!!!!).

The Triton also makes a great vocoder and multi fx processor thanks to it's sampling inputs.

Go for the Triton!!!! Cheers.

How do you stack the analog deep sub bass sounds of the mr-rack (ensoniq) and the jd-990 to the triton? with mpc

These units all have their own particular 'sound'. To me Korg and Roland have their own unique character which compliment each other nicely when used in a mix.

The Triton is a monster. I finally got the MOSS card for it and I can honestly say the MOSS is one of the best synths I have EVER heard. I will put it on par with the nord leads of the world AND THEN SOME. Truly awesome.

I compared the Trinity, Triton and EX5... I think that you would shoot yourself for not thinking that the EX5 could not stand against the TRITON...

I don't know where people think that the timing is off... I have yet to run into this problem. And I run up to 14 tracks...

The sound engines are phenomenal... Point blank, and unarguable... Yeah, annoying messages pop up, but only if you are trying to get the EX5 to do something that it's not suppossed to do... I relate this to trying to get you PC or MAC do something like record 10 separate audio tracks at once... it just won't work...

The sound libraries and support extend as far as the imagination...

The real time controller knobs on the EX5 have th Triton beat, hands down.

You get more outputs - 4 are standard and you can get the digital outs or the additional 4 analog outputs.

and flash RAM to compensate for slow scsi -- to me this is not a big deal... In this realm, you have to wait....simple as that...

Consider the EX5 and save about $700....

This has been debated lots of times. I have been using a Yamaha ex-5, Kurzweil K2vx and a triton pro-x extensively.

Saying that the ex-5 is better than the triton is a joke. It has a deep, powerfull synth engine that sadly lacks polyphony in the most interesting modes (vl, va and fdsp), and in the sample-mode it cant use all 126 voices because of timing.

Its sequencer is the worst ever seen in a workstation

Its operating system is confusing compared to the triton.

It samples are of much lower quality than the triton.

But as a pure synth, I would recommend it to experienced buyers.

The kurzweil is a totally different breed of synth. Comparing acoustic/simulated sounds, the kurz sound like shit. Its stronghold is synthetic/harsh/techno sounds, where it gives you absolute control over every parameter. I would say that the kurzweil synth engine is probably the most powerful sample+synthesis engine ever made. If you need more power, you will have to:

a) get a rack of additive synthesis modules and start fourier analyzing.
b) get a bunch of moog modulars
c)write some advanced new algorithms in c++

Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, all use the Triton.

Eminems first record was almost entirely produced on it.

The Triton is the centerpiece to have in your arsenal. Get it and add cool things to it later like a nord micor or access virus.
