Hello there,
If I am not mistaken you are a previous owner of Korg i30 and then you went to Roland EM2000 I am thinking about getting a Roland VA7 and would like to know about the sequencer, the i30 have the great BSQ does roland share the same feature (whatever it is called) I do not like the Yamaha sequencers the editing is quite limited I just miss the i30 sequencer otherwise I was very happy with the PA-80 which I have sold.

Is the sequencer on the PA80 not as good as the i30 BSQ?
Thanks,
Boo

Hello Boo,

No it is not same the BSQ mode in PA-80 is quite different and sucks in comparison to i30 there are jut so many thing missing from the i30 BSQ however the style recorder in the PA80is more powerful than i30..

Arbaz.Yes, I agree the sequencer on the i3 & i30 had excellent editing facilities. I could record a back chord sequence and later in step time alter any chord or add bass like C/G.
I did not get so involved with the EM2000 so can not comment on the VA series. Possibly a VA owner can add his comments about the sequencer.
I use a 9000Pro now and as you stated the sequence although very usable does not have the same extended editing. If I record a chord sequence in real time I can not edit it does not show up in step time.

Although I have played the PA80 I have not done any sequencing on it.

Hi Arbazz,
there's a couple of groups for Roland products, maybe they can help with questions on the sequencer, though they don't appear to be very active. http://www.daytonamusic.com/rag/

or there's the VA7 yahoo group.

I've actually got a VA7 , but haven't used it to any degree. I haven't even tried using the sequencer yet. On a quick glance it appears to function in 2 modes. A quick record type method, using the arranger facilities where you pick the style , press record, and away you go.

The other method is a full 16 track sequencer where you can actually do note by note editing etc, but I get the impression that you don't use this method when you actually want to record using the arranger, though. It appears to be more on the lines of a p.c. based sequencer.

I somehow get the impression it doesn't have a chord track like my kn7 or my pro did ie being able to step record a chord sequence and putting in the style parts etc to create a backing track.

Maybe you can ask some of these questions of the group.

Sorry that I can't be of more help.

best wishes
Rikki
