Ok, I use a SPAM emailer blocker provided by my DSL service provider (SBC DSL Internet) and for the most part, it correctly re-directs SPAM to my SPAM email folder. Still, every so often, a legitimate piece of email get mis-directed there by mistake as well. For this reason, I have to CONTINOUSLY check daily my SPAM email folder for mis-directed legitimate email. The PROBLEM is that the amount of SPAM automatically directed to my SPAM folder sometimes tops 100! This means having to spend that much more time checking to see if 'legitimate email' ended up there.

Curious 'how much' SPAM email you guys are getting daily, and how 'you' deal with it.

My email provider got a spam feature. So most are actually caught by them. But I still may get 5 to 10 spams per week. I just delete them. If you use outlook, remember to turn the automatic downloading picture off so that it will not download any pictures when you open the spam. Otherwise, you are telling the spammer that your email is valid and please send me more spam.

For years, I got almost no spam what so ever. In the past year, I have started to get spam daily. Usually, I get less than 5 per day. Almost all are properly directed into my Spam folder on AOL. I check it daily, but it's no problem since there are so few in there. I feel lucky with my combination of AOL and Mozilla Firefox as my email client. This combination has get me relatively spam and virus free for a long time. Prior to Firefox, I used Netscape. Avoiding Internet Explorer and Microsoft Outlook has helped reduce the risks.

I have to this day not recieved a single spam e-mail, even though I've had three different e-mail accounts (all web-based). I don't have a clue why, but it's just like that .

I use Mailwasher. Once I tick an email as SPAM the program blacklists it. With Mailwasher you see the first 20 lines to enable you to see what it is before deciding if you wish to downloading into MS Outlook.

Scott,

I get about 200 a day into my junk mail folder. I have to at least look through them because I teach classes at one of the local colleges and my students sometimes email me. I get them because I sign up for lots of free stuff on the web. I blow away 99% of them without even opening them.

I have 3 addresses I use most of the time. One of them gets 2 or 3, another 2 or 3. The third, my Yahoo address, is the one I use when I sign up for most "stuff". It currently has around 2,000. The Junk folder automatically deletes the oldest ones I think every month, but the total remains around the same, so I guess I get a couple thousand a month. Amazing.

I use my cassp address almost exclusively and spam shows up at a rate of about 4-6 per day. Usually its meds, money or ED stuff. My wife gets absolutely none at the same @. So she slways 'kids' me that the stuff must come from my surfing. I go to a lot fewer places than she does.

Though my server's SPAM blocker effectively filters out 99% of all my SPAM to a bulk email folder, this doesn't solve the problem of having to check this bulk email folder daily for an isolated legitimate email that got automatically routed there by mistake either. It's really a hassle to pick through the trash (of up to 100 items) every day to possibly spot something actually legit there. For this reason, it's too risky to just have all email that's been routed to the bulk folder automatically deleted. I wish there were a better solution, but at this point, the only one (I suppose) is changing my email address altogether. - Scott

Hi Scott

When you review your spam folder, do you sort it by sender? That might make it easier to identify the possible legit ones. Especially since you have so many spam emails everyday.
