I tried setting up 1 sound on R1 and one on R2 (PSR550) and found that R2 (right hand tone) and also L (left hand tone) do not have effects. If I setup an organ sound in L and R1, when I turn on the DSP (rotating speakers), only R1 has the effect. Am I doing something wrong? Is their a work around solution for this unwanted feature?

I'm not too up on Yamaha gear but if it's anything like Korg, you more than likely need to go into the internal settings for the voices, I'm assuming sequence here, but even the presets need may need to be adjusted for L & R output.
That, at least is how my Korgs work, but I'm sure some of the other members, particularly those with similar gear will be able to steer you in the right direction.

Many effects can be used on multiple channels. The Rotary Speaker effect is an 'Insertion Effect'. Think of this type of effect like a guitar stomp box. Only the guitar player can use this effect because the effector is inserted in line between his gutar and amp. Only a 'System Effect' can be used by multiple channels. Check pages 50, 132 and 133 in your manual for details on this issue. The only way to have the Rotary Speaker effect across the whole keyboard is to have only one voice (R1).
