I'm bit confused here.. First everyone was talking about the PSR3k to have 100Mb wave rom. Then I heard a story it would only have 64Mb wave rom.

So I checked from http://psrtutorial.com/Help/H_PSRs/PSR-3000.html and there are both figures.

Does anyone have any clue how much wave rom there is going to be? 64Mb or 100Mb..??

Pre-release info at the Yamaha arranger workstations site says 64 Mb for the 3000 vs 16Mb for the 1500.

Whoever said it was 100mb shouldnt have done that. Not fair to make raise peoples hopes for nothing.

The Tyros has 96mb of wave rom. The PSR3000 is not the replacement for the Tyros.

From what I gather this number of mb of wave rom is what makes one sound better that the other in the tone department? Do I have that right?

If so, I wonder how noticeable the tonal difference is really going to be between 64 and 96?

Probably less than what the naked figures indicate. From what I've heard, the tonal improvement from PSR2000 to 2100 is not obvious, yet the wave rom has been doubled from 16 to 32 Mb.

I think most of the additional memory goes into just some voices, which then sound quite a bit better.

Wave ROM is a complicated issue, it is an indication of the quality, but nothing more. It all depends on the technical creativity of the programmer in how he/she uses this wave ROM. That being said. Frank Rosenthall has 15 gigs of wave ROM (he can correct me if that's wrong or even greater then that, at this writing), so if he says his softsynth arranger sounds better then our keyboards, I believe.

There are other issues as well. Squeak_D and I were discussing the ROM size on the PSR550 and PSR1000, they are both 8mb, but this was Steve Deming's answer, "Hey guys
The PSR1000 has separate ROM chips for Voice and OS. They are combined in the PSR550. So the PSR1000 has roughly twice the voice ROM of the 550. Hope that clears it up.

Ok, so 100Mb is not magically more than 64Mb.. In fact it does not matter too much to me as long as it sounds good.

To be honest, I don't need very much better sounds, I'm looking for other upgrades in 3k, like 3 intro/ending buttons, able to change upper octave and transpose without having to press the damn button twice, USB and few other minor things. Plus I like the way it looks
