Hello,

I am planning to replace my old Yamaha keyboard with a newer one, but still not an expensive instrument. Currently I am thinking of the following models:
1) Casio WK3700
2) Roland EXR-5S

Have you ever used any of those? Could you tell me anything good or bad about any of those models or about the quality of keyboards of Roland and Casio generally?

Maybe you have any other recomendations for a keyboard of about the same price rate? Maybe anything from other manufacturers, ex. Yamaha, Korg?

Every opinion is welcome. All ideas will be appreciated.

Both are good boards. However they also have their strong and weak points.

-The Casio 3700 has really good sounds, and is nothing like the Casio's of the past.
-It also allows you to do basic voice editing
-Memory for user samples.
-76 keys with smart media and disk storage.
-Drawbar organs.
-Decent speakers.
-The Casio also has WAY more indepth DSP editing.

The EXR series don't allow voice editing, and to my understanding don't even allow you to edit tracks under the 16 track sequencer (bad in my opinion).

Even though the Casio only records 6 tracks you can at least do track editing (after the recording is finished).

Me, I'd take the Casio WK-3700.

whoa...a roland is a roland - go with the Roland EXR-5..

when you choose a style on the casio, and start the arranger..play something...if you play something " legatto " with the right hand, the keyboard sounds like it's choking and the beats sound gross during the process.

Roland EXR-5 - a roland is a roland ..my opinion..

Keybords have a limit of the notes they can play at the same time. This is the so called 'Polyphony' (from Greek: Poly=Many, Phonos=Sound) The polyfony limit of your Casio is 32 notes which I is enough for simple arrangements and, probably, for playing Chopin

My casio is choking on 3 finger chords on each hand, no sustain, and a simple drum track, if I use some "advanced tones" and play a little faster.
Sometimes chokes when playing certain styles, and an 1-2 finger melody line.

Yeah that is I'd say one of the BIG limitations to the Casio WK's. It would be different if the samples were single layered. Since they've up the voice quality and added multiple layered sounds the 32 note poly just don't cut it. They should have increased the poly. Even 48 note poly would make a difference.
