Laura,
I own a music store in California.
I would suggest two different Roland models.
First, the RD170,$995.00 has 88 graded hammer weighted keys and great sounds including acoustic pianos, hammond organs, jazz (scat voices), brass, etc. This is a very good value. The Yamaha P90 has similar features but nowhere near as many sounds. The Roland has 64 sounds, 64 voice polyphony and 16 split, layer setups can be saved.
Roland also has the FP2, which adds speakers, rhythms 58 sounds and 256 GM sounds for $1295.00. However, the keyboard feel on the RD170 is Roland's best and the FP2 isn't the same keyboard.
