Maybe many of you know this, but I never used to realy think about it... Really good sounds exist in Sound modules. (I think in my opinion, that roland makes best sound modules, like XV-5080/ 5050/ 2020 .jv...etc...)
What many musicians do they use Korg keyboad(Triton, Trinity...)and they use Roland`s sound module...
Maybe some of you use sound modules too, any opinion?
I heard from many sources how good Triton is, but when I checked it many times, the sounds weren`t that Great, but the sequencer was very Good and other stuff. Fantom-X has extremly Beutiful sounds, but sequencer is not very likebale...

I used to use sound modules, I had a roland dedicated bass and drum module, don't remember the name. I also had a E-mu Proteus 2000 great sounding module six outputs, and a Peavey bass module also nice sounding. I've also had a couple of the Roland sc 55 GM modules, also very nice.
Then I got a Tyros it has enough outputs, great sounds, hard drive, connectivity. So I sold all the modules just got rid of the last one last month on ebay.
I ususally use power tracks pro computer based sequencer. Don't even know how to run the sequencer on the keyboard. I think one of the advantages of a computer based sequencer besides, mouse, larger screen, storage, compatability, when I get a new keyboard I don't have to learn a new sequencer.

There's no doubt that a sound module has better sounds than an arranger keyboard. An arranger keyboard is a jack of all trades - but professional at none. The reason I use my arranger (Tyros) is because I need a keyboard which can do everything - and for that I have to compromise on the sound.

One sound I wasn't prepared to compromise on though was the drums, so I use a Roland V-Drum TD-6 in conjunction (MIDI) with my Tyros.

Btw, if you want even BETTER sounds, nothing beats software instruments! They are sampled at much higher rates, and are usually specialized. (Ie: you can't buy a module with just woodwinds - but you can with software instruments --- once again the same jack of all trades rule.)

I am new to the sound module route. How does one use it in live situation-save the sounds in the user area ? I have PSR 3000.

Korg sound modules from what ive found were WAY more exspensive than comparable Roland ones. Maybe thats way people dont use the Korg ones as much? Or they like the feel of the Korg KBs, but like Roland sounds. Theres quite a few reasons why.

You have a controller, either a sequencer in a computer or a keyboard, send midi messages to a sound module. Most sound modules are just like a keyboard without the keys.

So, can I still use my arranger keyboard styles and all the other functions ?

How do I access the sound modules' sounds ?

Years ago I used a Yamaha PSR 6300 with a sound module for brass, another for strings, and a third for bass and drums.

I got to see/hear a Pro using a KN2000 with two small sound modules, which he controlled with two volume foot pedals.

The sonds were great, but ---- In my opinion they take away from my playing. (live)
I can see their value if I were recording (audio)or sequencing.

A good keyboard like a Tyros or a KN7000 gives me all I need. And the new ones are getting better.

You would control it all through midi, start by reading the midi portion of your manual, but with a psr 3000 you already have some of the best sounds around why would you want a module?
