Has anyone had experience in using a subwoofer with their external speaker system that is connected to your keyboard? I am more interested in the high-end speaker environment eg. main speakers in the $800+ (each) catagory.
Has it significantly improved the low-end sound below 100 Hz? What subwoofer power rating were you using - 300, 500, 1000 watts?

I use a Yorkville system..2/ 12" w/horns on poles[550 watts each] and a 600 watt subwoofer...I set the roll off at 100 on the 2 cabinets..The bottom ..you have to experience this set up....teriffic..
I use a Mackie board[CFX12], sending the mix to a sum out instead of the sub out//this allows me a volume slider to control the sub woofer, and the mains for the 12" pair..

Thanks for the input. I currently use a pair of Barbetta Sona SE41C's connected directly to my 9000Pro. The sound is very good! Since I play a lot of organ I was wondering what the improvement would be with a quality subwoofer. As I was looking at the various subwoofers I noticed a new model from Behringer. It is the model B2092A. It has some interesting characteristics for the price ($200) but I normally would expect to lay out $500 and up. At that price I would almost be tempted. If it didn't meet my expectations I would not be out much. Comments...

I use an EV Sx120b (?) 12", 300 watt sub with my Mackie 300i speakers. As much as I love the Mackies, the EV sub makes them sound all the better.

I use 2 JBL Eon 10G2's and the Logitech z5500 sub. It works out very well. Should be more power than anybody needs unless they want to take the paint off the wall.

Everything is as light weight as you can get it and still have a good sound and power. The Eons are 23 lbs and the Logitech sub is 34 lbs.

The sub adds a nice bottom even at low volumes and really pumps out when I crank it. I just plug the sub into the Tyros headphone jack.

I'm thinking of buy my own subwoofer, normally I use two subs for big Ballroom party, from reading this post, seems to be one is enough. Is the powered sub the way to go, and would the 15" keyboard amp be the alternative?

The characteristics of a sub-woofer is that the low frequencies spread out over a wide area and generally have no noticable point of reference. I have not seen the need for more than one sub if you are just playing a keyboard.
Powered or un-powered. That generally depends on what you have for existing equipment. If you do not have an amp capable of driving a sub then generally a powered unit is the best approach. If you buy an external amp make sure it has the power to drive the sub plus other speakers.

Are your 2 12" speakers in mono coming out of one output and is you sub-woofer coming out of the other output making the two channels stereo?

What do you mean when you say you're sending the mix to a sum out instead of the sub out.
It sounds like you have a separate slider for the 2 12" speakers and one for the subwoofer.

Peter, The Mackie CFX allows me to stay in stereo or mono with allocation buttons..The main mix ,left and right are controlled by sub out sliders[left and right..being sub out 1 and 2]..This volume is controlled by the master volume..
My sub woofer is controlled by another sub out directly to the sub woofer[my sub out fader #4] is used to control the volume independently from the master fader..

You are correct I have seperate control of the 12's[individually,sub out 1 and 2]overall with master fader..and the Sub woofer with Sub out #4 directly to the powered Sub woofer.

BTW..the Mackie also allows me to feed two seperate monitor mixes[each channel independently] ..Tape out to a recorder, and Unity outs to a house system or another external sound system..
My set up also allows me another send via subout#3 to another sound system..
This Mackie is the most flexable mixer I have owned[including decent effects[32bit]]..
