I had a chance to talk to Don Mason briefly this afternoon, he ask me to tell all of you his mother has taken a turn for the worst and is in intensive care with a poor prognosis. He will be away from all communications until things get better.
Hank....Our prayers and thoughts are with him...may she get well ..you only have one mother and I know that he is worring very much for her....we are there if he needs anything...... Tony Rome

Thank you so much for your prayers and good thoughts. Unfortunately my mother appears to have irreversible brain damage. She was in the hospital being treated for stomach problems and appeared to be making progress. Then early Saturday morning the nurse found her not breathing. They were able to get her heart started and get her breathing again, but apparently she went too long without oxygen to her brain. I'll be meeting with the doctors later today to discuss when to stop the life support systems. She is not in any distress, but is on a ventilator to help her breath and Dopemin to control her blood pressure. The doctors agree that she will not survive without the life support, but there are a serious of legal tests and steps they must go through, once life support has begun. The still do not know what caused her heart to stop. Tests reflect no heart attack and no stroke.
Please remember with me. My mother was an accomplished classical pianist and organist and contributed countless hours over close to 75 years by playing for church, funerals and weddings. My first exposure to music was when I sat on her lap and "played" the huge Hammond C3 church organ. We always had a piano in our house. She spent 40 years in the banking industry and ended her career as the head of a savings and loan association, one of the first women to accomplish this. She has had a full and happy life for 84 years, and I know she will be even happier in the next life. Thanks for letting me share this with you. It is a trying time for us. Don
Don....your mother sounds like a wonderful woman and it's easy to see where the talent in the family came from....I am soo very sorry for your loss, just try to think of this as a permanent gig for her playing with beautiful harps where the Angels gather try to stay strong amigo.....God Bless.. Don:
Times like these I remember what my father tried to teach me, Rejoice son do not greave, she's going to a better place, her work is done, and no more pain and suffering, she will be happy reuniting with her family and meeting her maker;
Hard to do, you will be sad, but be happy for her, and try to follow her teachings.
Your friends and family are your comfort.......Pose

Don My feelings and thoughts are very much with you. I have gone through the same agony when my son was brain damaged in a road accident earlier this year and the family had the terrible decision of agreeing to turn off the life support system. Memories and faith are a support, but I understand how difficult it is. Regards Keith

Don ... I lost my mom in Feb 04 at the age of 91 yrs ... fortunately her passing was peaceful ... she was my musical inspiration as she was a singer (non-professional) and performed for her senior club the Christmas before she died ... It's tough, but at least we can reflect on the good life they had ... t.

Dear friends, I want you to know how much your thoughts, prayers and good wishes have meant to me during the past week. We had the funeral today with our family and close friends attending. It was a truly wonderful send-off, and I'm certain my mother appreciated it, as I appreciate you. Don
