OK, L1 - what about the stereo issue? Is there a left/right input and a separate channel for voice that will allow for keyboard stereo? Is stereo really necessary? Will lack of be a terrible mistake?

Happy weekend....only (2) jobs...a break for a change and then all heck breaks loose in October!

I am one of the minority..I like speakers on the floor..I have better control of bass..Put on poles and good luck trying to get a decent bass response..

I don't have the problem Diki mentioned with people cutting off the sound..When I need to have coverage in a crowded room and have to reach the back of the room..I tilt my Rolands[pop off rear wheels]..and it covers any room..

Zuki's question was using a floor monitor as a PA..First the K4 is excellent as a monitor[really a keyboard amp]..it is a wedge design as well as straight up or on end..Anyway you need it..it fulfills..

A trick I have used for years [with my Roland amps]I turn them around towards me..the sound reflects off the wall behind me..It is unbelievable how well this gives coverage..

In fact the room I am playing now...we use a 100 watt Peavey monitor facing us[wedge]..the sound covers the whole room[large room]...so much that the room is a problem, because they want it quiet for the dinning customers...The latter sets we switch to the out front Yorkvilles [on poles], and the needed Yorkville sub woofer...

You can attach a bare electrical wire to your post, I bet you the first one that gets shocked will tell the others not to go near your system......................

I and a number of people here enjoy using 2 powered JBL 10 Eon G2's, setting them on the floor tilted back. 23 lbs each, stereo, good bass on the floor and nobody get's blasted in the face. Certainly worth a demo I would think.

The stereo V/S mono issue has been hashed out dozens of times. Keep in mind that the only people that hear stereo is the person playing the keyboard, and those few audience members that are situated within an equalateral traingular area determined by the distance the speakers are set apart. For example, if the speakers are 10-feet apart, the actual stereo effect will only travel out to a pin-point area 10-feet in front. The closer the audience is to the keyboard, the more stereo effect they'll hear. However, the audience members that are situated to the left or right of the speakers predominantly hear that channel, which can often overpower the opposite channel. With a mono system, particularly a cylindrical radiator, everyone gets to hear all the sounds of the keyboard at the same volume. And, because the of the size and weight of the base unit, and the ability to position the L1 out of the lanes of traffic, it would be very difficult to knock it over. Conversely, a speaker that weights 30 to 50 pounds perched upon a relatively light, aluminum tripod is very easily toppled, and when they do get knocked over, they frequently fall on the keyboard player. I've seen lots of drunks knock over conventional speakers on stands. I never even had a close call with the L1.

When I was using conventional speakers, I used to carry a couple theater poles with a plastic chain stretched between them. It works to some degree, but someone will eventually knock the poles down, plus they were a pain in the ass to haul around.

thanks Fran, ScottL and Gary for bucking the conventional prejudices and myths in favor of common sense. speakers on the floor in most cases sound better than on poles, for reasons in addition to the bass...turning the speaker toward the player and the back wall solves a lot of problems of both the band hearing themselves and complaints from patrons of the music being too loud in their face. stereo effect in live performance is nothing but a gimmick effect. originally stereo was developed to make recordings sound more like live performance. DUH, you ARE performing live, so you don't need stereo to sound "more" live. and you know what else? you don't need more than one speaker unless you need a monitor. If you set up 2 speakers in mono and don't use a monitor you are carrying one more speaker than you need to, and you have LESS control of the sound when you have 2!!!make life easier for yourself and get better sound: use ONE strong excellent speaker, (and a monitor if u need it--but better to place the speaker in such a way you don't need the monitor at all) ------------------ Miami Mo

Mo - thanks for your thoughts, but it seems pretty radical to me. I guess I'm a tradionalist and think separate speakers, mounted above the seats will sound best. Also, only one speaker sure sounds like a dull deal.

I'm all for changing my current pole mount system and would love to use floor mounts. I don't know if I could live without hearing the speakers in my ears as I stand to play...

I place my speakers tilted back about an arms length from me on either side. You can hear yourself perfectly whether sitting or standing and I would think for the kind of places you play you will have way more than enough volume. And the sound is quite rich.

Off the top of my head I know John C and Beakybird among others here use this basic idea with these speakers. My guess is if you give it a test you'll be sold. And you won't have to carry speaker stands anymore.
