I'm in the process of making my first CD. However, when I burn it. It will play on a computer. It will play on a car stereo. It will play on my Portaable CD radio. But it will not play in a DVD. Is thier some encoding I'm missing with my burner program??
Thanks,

Some CD/DVD players do not read burned CDs or CDRWs.

I closed the session. It just won't play on DVD machines. My friend tried it on his DVD player and it would not read. Thier must some type of encoding... Store bought cd's will play fine in these DVD players.

Beachbum,
CDs and DVDs are two, totally different medias. It's almost the same as trying to play a video tape with a CD player--it just won't work. If you want to make a DVD, you'll need a DVD burner, but they will not play in a CD player.

Cheers,

Gary

Yo Beachbum,

Give this site a try:

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers

It is suppose to be a list of current DVD players and their compatibility based on user reports.

Don't know how accurate that will be but it might give you a place to start.

Found another interesting link:

It is a DVD player that also play's CD's. It will play any commercial music cd. But will not play my burned cd. I still think I'm missing something on the encoding... I'm not the village idot here, although I may place. If it was just a DVD player I think I could have figured out it won't play CD's but it plays all commercial music CD's fine. What am I missing here???
Thanks again.

Welcome to the world of home studios, and the pitfalls. The reason that store-bought CD's work on DVD and older CD players is because they have been "glass-mastered" by companies that mass-produce CD's. If you want to mass-duplicate your CD, there are plenty of companies that can master your CD for you so it will play on DVD and older CD players. In fact, having your CD mass-produced is often the cheapest and easiest route to go. It takes a lot of time, money and materials to mass-produce CD's at home.

Your only alternative is to go ahead and make/sell CDR's and either put something on the labeling that tells people that your CDR will only play on "CDR-compatible" players or you can put a little note inside of each CD that tells people where to return your CDR for a full refund if they are not satisfied with their purchase. CDR's play on most CD players and some DVD players, but usually they have to say "CDR-compatible".

My DVD only read some brands of CD.
I don't know why, and nobody could tell me why it happens.
