Cool
I know this is a little late but did you ever get the systems disk? I have 3 or 4 of them and i would ship one to you if you still need it. Also, I downloaded the s550 sample lib. and used sdisk to try to make s330 disks but could not get sdisk to work properly. Have you had any experience with this? the instructions on using sdisk are sort of vague. Let me know about the system disk.

First of all: sdisk does not work under Windows 9x! If you are running Win9x, quit to DOS mode to run sdisk.
two: be sure if the disk you are trying to create is double density or high density; sdisk will not create a DD disk image on a HD floppy disk.
Hope this help you on use of sdisk.

For Mgomes
I have tried many different ways to make SDisk work with no results. I am running in DOS mode (not windows Dos) and I am using DD disks. I can get sdisk to Read a file that I have downloaded and unzipped, but it will not Write that file as an s330/s550 image file to a DD disk. When I use the D command I can rename a file but I cannot change the drive desigination. What I need is a step by step direction to see if I am doing somthing wrong. By the way, I have read most of your responses on this BB and I think there should be more people in the world like you. Thanks

Step by step:

Read: reads a sampler disk from drive and write a image file in your computer.
Write: reads a image file in computer and write sampler disk.
Details: change the file name and the drive to read from/write to.
Quit: quits... ;-)

To create a disk, you press D, put the name of unzipped downloaded file, and the letter of drive you want to use.
Then, press W to write disk.
To create a file from a disk, use R instead of W.
Note that S330 disks are reported as "unknown" by sdisk; it recognizes only the S750/S770, S550 and W30 formats, but still works with S330 format.

Yes, I understand what the commands are but I think my computer dosn't. Let me go through the procedure and see if you can find any thing wrong.
1. I have downloaded file 5501_1.zip from the W30.msoft...
2. I unziped it and got file 5501_1.out It is 1.44k
3. I put 5501_1.out onto a 1.44 floppy. The details command will not let me use any other drive other than A or B. My computer has A,C,D, and E drives.
4. I start my computer in msdos mode and run SDisk. it comes up with the command screen.
5. I type "5501_1.out" and select A.
6. The command screen returns.
7. I type R and a fuel gage comes up and working is displayed. I also get the proper responses in the activity line at the bottom.
8. When completed, I remove the 1.44 disk in the A drive and place in a DD disk. I then select Write in the menue and get the response "disk to small/large for file" and everything comes to a halt.
I have tried a 1.44k disk, with a taped over hole, in the write process with no better results. I did notice that the 5501_1.out file gets changed from 1.44k to a 720k file
I think that because I cannot specify a drive other than A is my main problem. I think I cannot see the trees because of the forest.
Is it because it is too simple?

Majik,

Now I understand what's wrong!

When you type R, sdisk *read* the floppy disk and write a image file named 5501_1.out in your HD, overwriting the downloaded file with a image of the disk in your drive A.
To create the sampler disk, you must use W, to *write* the file 5501_1.out to the floppy disk.

As I said before:
R -> read floppy disk(source), write to file (destination)
W -> read file(source), write to floppy disk (destination)
D -> details are: name of the file, drive letter.

I think I have figured out my problem. When I unzip the downloaded file (5501_01.zip) I get a resulting file 5501_01.OUT. this file is 737,280 bites. A DD disk can only hold 730,112 bites. I have been unziping to a HD disk 1.44b because I cannot specify anything but the 'A' drive. I have tried to unzip to a DD disk but only get 97% and a failure message. If i unzip to my hard drive 'C', I can not get SDisk to access the file as it will only use the 'A' drive. Will SDisk allow you to read or write a file to any drive you want? iF SO, my SDisk pgm is KAPUT!
