I talked to George Kay yesterday and he has been at home all week with severe back pain. The pain is bad enough that he cannot stand or sit so he is stuck in bed. He had an MRI and was diagnosed with two herniated discs. He will be having outpatient surgery on Monday. He is hoping to be back at work by the end of next week.

George,

I had emailed you privately last week and you know you are in our prayers right?

Looking forward to a 'stronger' George next week. You'll come out just fine.

George I wish you the best with your back surgery and hope your recovery is speedy. I have back problems myself, I had a bad flare up last week and am now being treated by my Chiropractor.

Again best wishes!

George,

Wishing you a safe and quick recovery from your surgery. Amazing what medicine can do now to get us back on our feet so quickly.

Hope this does not affect your appetite for Thanksgiving Day!

Herniated disk or not, I would consult a chiropractor FIRST before opting for surgery. I recommended that for my wife 6 years ago, and she has been fine ever since WITHOUT the surgery!!!!

George, if your looking please check out that advice first!!!!

George,

Hopefully, everything will work out OK, and with todays new surgical techniques, herniated disk surgery is now done as a minimaly invansive and the results are far better than just a decade ago. However, don't be in a rush to go back to doing things the way you did in the past. I'm sure the surgeon will restrict what and how you can lift things for the next few months. This is a precautionary step to avoid severe injury to the area where the disks are removed, and to allow the vertebra to fuse naturally, which takes several weeks. Play it safe, let someone else take care of the store for a while, and take some time to smell the roses.

Good Luck,

Gary

thank you all so much for your well wishes. I consider you all my extended family.
My back pain really started back in August and I've exhausted chiropractic help, physical theropy and after an MRI, clearly the only way for me to go is with a microdiscectomy. A small incision with a microscope will trim the disk which is going into the nerve. I know many people who have had this surgery and feel instant relieve with very minimum discomfort from the surgery intself. I will be in the hospital Monday morning, surgery at 7AM and probably home that same afternoon or the next morning at the latest. The pain has been so bad that for the past month I can barely walk or sit down. With the Motrin I've been taking the past 4 months, I've been able to cope at work, but now, not being able to take any more Motrin 2 weeks before surgery, it's been very painful. A friend of mine just had the same surgery last week and he couldn't believe how much better he felt immediately following the surgery and he was home that night and sitting at the dining room table and taking walks outside the next day.
Thank you again for your prayers and thoughts. They help a great deal. I'm borrowing my sons laptap and I lie here in bed hearing all the sounds and smells of my wife and kids preparing Thanksgiving dinner. I feel really bad being stuck here in my bed. I hope I can make out for a few minutes later to at least have a few bites of here delicious meal. I really feel the worst for having to put my family through all of this over the past several months. It's my son John's Freshman year at college and he is home this weekend and will be running my store until he leaves on Sunday. I have my other employees steping up to the plate and helping out all they can. I really think I'll be OK to return by the end of the week and trust me........I haven't been lifting anything for months now so I'm getting used to it.
My thoughts for all of you is to have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Holiday season and to remember that this wonderful internet site has brought so many of us together.
Warmest thoughts ,
George Kaye

Best of luck to our noble friend, George.

He doesn't complain. He doesn't criticize. He doesn't whine. He doesn't boast. He just provides help to others.

You're in California, George. Land of alternative therapies and such. Hope you check out some yoga, tai chi, Feldenkrais, Alexander Technique, massage, and/or other methods to keep the fluidity in your spine.

Best of luck,

George really is a special guy, Sure he is a keyboard dealer himself but he conducts business in such a refined fashion that it benefits all of us. He never beats around the bush and just gives us the real info on new products. George is the very model of what you'd hope most dealers would strive to be.

We all really miss your input George and hope you are feeling much better once your treatment is taken care of.

Wow! I can't believe the last time I was talking to you, George, you were getting ready to go for your specialist appointment. And, now, you already are finished with your surgery! That was really quick and most important, it sounds like you are beginning to feel better already. I hope you continue to heal fast and I wish you well. Take care of yourself.

2nd day after surgery and I'm doing fine. Last night was a bit scary. I had taken too much narcotic medication yesterday and at dinner time I was standing in the kitchen and I asked my wife a question and just blacked out for a few seconds. My wife was right next to me to catch me. I got quite a scare. I called my Dr. and he said all the anethesia, pain medication just got the best of me. Needless to say, no more pain medication for me. I can tough it out. It really doesn't hurt much. Be really careful if you take heavy duty medications. My blood pressure went down to like 82 over 47 for a few minutes. Today it is normal again. I hope to be back at the store by the weekend. Again, thanks for all your good wishes and prayers.

George ... so glad to hear you are doing better .. watch those drugs ...
I know hospitals and HMOs etc. are trying to keep costs down, but I really think that as long as they are putting a blade to any part of your body, you should be kept overnight ...
Be well ...

today was my first day out for a ride with my wife. The bank, Starbucks, the supermarket and now I'm home watching USC beating my Bruins in the 2nd quarter 10 - 0. My goal is to go back to the store on Monday for my first day back and put in a couple of hours and then come back home for a rest. Thanks you all.
