Hey, if you're a Star Trek TNG fan, you've seen this before. It was in Season 6 on the episode "Lessons". Picard falls in love with a fellow officer and they play music together. In one scene, she brings a roll-up keyboard.

I can't imagine that thing would be easy to play.

I remember in the late 70's, a friend of mine had an EDP(Electronic Dream Plant) Wasp....it was weird little synthesizer...just like a real wasp it was black and yellow.

It had awful non-moving touch keys.. flat plastic keys were only sensitive to your touch.

There was a little speaker built in but it was a bugger to play.

Cool thing was, it sounded great because it had real ANALOG filters, envelopes and controls...it made neat bass, synth, and other useful monophonic sounds. Vince Clarke uses one.

It's designer, Chris Hugget, also designed the Oxford Synthesizer Company's OSCar Synthesizer.

I know...where is he going with this? But it was sorta the " carry anywhere" keyboard in its day.

I've got one. (roll up piano)
Key feel is like playing a car floormat.
Polyphony is limited about 8 notes on mine.
However, I have had mine for almost two years.
Maybe they are getting better.
I tell you this in all honesty...
If the sound source could be made by yamaha or roland, there would be NO question about rather to buy it or not. The portability is awesome. It is very playable. It just needs a better set of sound samples.

Yeah..it was similar to that one...but it was this weird yellow and black color, and the keys were flat membrane thingies...they were also yellow and black.

It was wicked for bass and noises...I used it a a few radio commercials...most of the cool sounds I got out of it were just by trial and error, with emphasis on the error.
