Can you run this system with just 3 speakers ?.....2 sat/ 1 sub? pros/cons
versus the Z2300.

You can run it with 2 speakers. 2 sat/1 sub in stereo mode. However, it is much thiner than the PL-II Music mode which uses all 5.1 speakers.

I assume you are asking to define the easiest to move setup. I put two satellites on two mic stands and put two satellites on the keyboard (I ordered the speaker clips from Yamaha for my T2 $35/ea) and put the center channel on the sub.
Everything for a job except for sub, mic stands, keyboard stand fits in one gym bag.

The Z2300 does not have the same power or speakers of the Z5500. 8" vs. 10" sub.

I think you get more versatility with the Z5500 and can do more jobs before having to pull out the big guns.

I know from other posts that you use other speakers for big jobs and you didn't like the TRS-MS02 with Bose. I A/B'd the Z5500 to the TRS-MS02 with Yamaha speakers and I liked the Yamaha better with two speakers. I liked the Z5500 more so with 5.1 speakers and the additional volume was welcomed for the <150 people jobs that I do solo or with a small combo.

I have a Motion Sound KB-100s. A 100 watts stereo amp. I thought the concept was a great idea (stereo and portable). However, I found that the 100 watts just didn't cut it. The 500 watts of the Logitech gets it done.

Hope all this helps.

Donny - a number of us (myself, Gary, StephenM, et al) have 'modified' the 5500s to reduce the wire problem, mount them on one or two boards, etc. ... they are more 'road worthy' than you think ... don't be too hasty with this decision ...

I have seen gary's setup...can you post yours or other's pics of your configurations, modifications .....I had the z2200 but it didn't cut the mustard for me......maybe the z5500 could do the trick with some mucho changes for portability and ease of use for in & out quick setups for small gigs only? Why wont it sound as good with only 2 satelites, that I could live with?
The sound/power/price is adequate enough so that's not an issue...

I agree with Tony. A bunch of us have experimented with the z5500 using different setups with some excellent results. For me the best sounding setup is using Stereo x2 (2 sats reproducing Left stereo channel, 2 sats Right). To my ears the stereo x2 setting helped to improve some of the midrange projection issues that people have mentioned previously. With sats and cabling mounted on a single pole the setup time for the z5500 is less than 1 minute.

I have also used the z5500 sub to drive a pair of typical PA speakers (10"+horn). You can get a lot more level out of the mids and highs due to the higher sensitivity rating of the larger satellites.

Kind regards
Mark

Donny, keep an open mind on this. Check out my rig. It's powerful, small and management, and cost effective:
