Hello,

I recently acquired a D70 with the factory settings erased. I have looked for a how to on restoring this keyboard. Anyone out there that can shed some light or walk me through a restore process. I heard there was a factory romcard for this and I also heard it could be done via midi but I don't have the brains for that.

Appreciate any input,

Jim V.

Jim, I have the factory D70 sounds saved to disk..Give me a couple days to dig it up..I have to go thousands of disk to find it,,but I am sure I have it...

You will need a midi sequencer..Are you also experienced with the bulk dump transfer?

You can download the manual from Roland..

Hello,

Thanks for the offer. I truly appreciate it. I was able to get the file and I did a midi dump that completely restored the keyboard.

Thanks for the thoughts,

Jim V.

Hi. I have the same problem. I have found a sysex from roland but the display is partly disrupted. So what did you do?

Thanks for that aj. This will be useful to other D70 owners in the future when they find this thread when searching for an answer to the same question. That is the cool thing about info on the Internet. It often lasts forever.

DO NOT DO THIS. It's easy to do a reset. But restore information is not easy. I think my d70 is gone. I have the factory settings on disk, and they load but dont work. The D70 after a reset is useless.

Have you tried sending your D70 the factory setting via sysex? Maybe there is a problem with the settings you have on disk even though you don't seem to be getting an error message. Floppy disks will corrupt over time.

Indeed. I just reset my newly acquired D70 using the .mid dump and the readme file with it. I tried the Bank8 method too, but nothing happened. I did succeed in erasing all memory by booting with Number8 pressed down, though.

Thanx for making this available.

Hi!!! Happily I just found your reply about having the factory sounds for the Roland D-70 saved to disk....
I have lost all of the factory sounds for my D-70....I would so appreciate it if we could work something out to allow me to get a copy of this disk??
Please let me know your feelings on this matter...
Best....

The original factory patches can be downloaded either as a MIDI file or a sysex file from http://www.synthzone.com/midi/roland/d70/D70/

If you play the MIDI file in a sequencer to your D70 it should transmit the original factory sounds to it. Just make sure the D70 is set to allow receiving the data. Most synths have a setting to prevent accidental overwriting of memory but that must be turned off to allow the data to be written to memory.
