New 500 watt system from Fender.

Maybe this might help Donny in his holy-grail quest for a smaller sound system.

I don't believe I've ever heard a Fender Passport in operation, and I don't care. IMHO, these are the absolute ugliest things I have ever seen. I wouldn't be caught dead in public with one of these. I wonder what they were thinking when they used all those kitchen knobs from the '50's

I have to concur with ScottL that these certainly look ugly. 250 watts to each speaker!? Sure sounds like a lot of excess (inefficient?) power needed to drive such small 8"(?!) speakers. I'll hold final judgement till after an actual listening performance test, but I don't think 8" speakers alone can produce enough (if any at all) bottom end. - Scott

Absolutely agree, Scott. It's no 'looker'. The word 'grotesque' comes to mind.

I've heard a similar Peavey portable system, and I wouldn't be heard dead with that. The phrase 'no balls' comes to mind.

This new one may be better, but the old ones sound terrible to me. I've heard them on several occasions. The Peavey Escort blows them away.

Before everyone starts labeling these as the ugly duckling of speakers--take a closer look at WHY the design is the way it is.

The point of this design is "portability". The mixer(amp), and speakers all hook together to form (ONE) unit to make transporting them easier.

Anyone actually heard them yet? Funny because there seems to be assumptions as to how they sound. Clearly, as you all should know by now--with current technology you can't judge a speaker anymore by how it looks, or the size of the woofer... Hell Bose is a clear example of that.

I thought the whole idea of this system was portability. The specs say: "Weighing in at a mere 53 lbs."

53 lbs sure isn't my idea of portability.

My idea of portability is speakers that weigh 23 lbs and maybe a mixer that weighs just a couple pounds, and I've got that with the JBL Eon 10 G2's when I decide to use the Behringer UB802 mixer which does give them more headroom if desired.

Scott what are you using with the g2 10's to get some decent bottom..[G2 sub?] I certainly wasn't impressed with the JBl g2 10's at all in the A/B tests we've done with many other speakers.....they definitely dont give me enough oomph....& I hate the wedgie design too make s for a clumsy transport......but at least they're Black
