Tony, the Eagles couldn't beat the current Bills, even if I was the starting QB[either team]..I told UD before the season the Eagles would be 0 and 4...Dettmer should have his spots, Donovan is good , but over rated. as was St Louis's QB..Once teams figure out your weaknesses, you become average..There are so few Joe Montana's or even Fran Tarkenton's..

San Diego Chargers are down the toilet IMO. 0-3 and no relief in sight.

Raiders are getting their keister whooped on Monday Night Football - ABC. Third quarter and the Denver Broncos lead 31 zip. Even the Forty Niners lost yesterday. I guess we here in California are so excited about ousting Gov. Gray Davis that I suppose it's hard for the teams here to concentrate on playing Football.

Best regards,
Mike

Hey Leon, CFL is an A+ in my book. Doug Flutie is a great example of a former CFL player that made it big in the NFL. He's now with the Chargers {AFL} - as a back up but hey he's over 40 so I guess that's expected. He was the starter when the Chargers first aquired him two years ago.

PS: Don't let the recall election get you down Leon. I imagine people all over the WORLD think that the folks here in California are a bunch of loose cannons.

It's really interesting that the next Governor of California could be a fella that can't even pronounce 'California' right. Hey Anold!!!! Vee Pump some Iron, Ya??? It should be required that every person running for Governor should be able to speak English fluently and proficiently so the people can at least understand WHAT THE HECK he's saying and not require English "subtitles" to his speeches and conversations to the public which I think he needs to accomodate for his lack of English language skills. He's been in the USA for over 30 years and for the life of me I don't understand why he still has that heavy Austrian accent. (No offense to our German friends on the Forum who LIVE in Germany). Hopefully he WON'T win the Governorship, because if he does, nobody will know when he's telling a lie or not because nobody will be able to understand what it is he's saying in the first place.

Forgive me if I sound a bit harsh on the man but IMHO there's no excuse for a person to live in the States for over 30 years and not be able to speak the language.

Best regards,
Mike

Mike,
I'm sure you're just venting here, but in the United States - there is NO official language. English is only one of many that is used, and had it not been for ONE VOTE (long ago) we would have all been speaking German!

Hard to believe, but it's true. English is not our official language. It may not even be the most used soon. Seems like everytime I go out I hear more and more accents and other tongues spoken. Who knows WHERE it'll lead. Give us your tired, your poor....Land of the free and all......

First Leon: Leon, I hear you! Chretien has been a big let down to our Canadian friends to the North IMHO. Former Finance Minister Paul Martin is positioning himself to replace Chretien but I'm not sure how most Canadians feel about Paul Martin either. He is still a Liberal but at least he believes that Saddam Hussein is 'evil'. So at least he's not all bad. PS: Sorry if you are a Liberal Leon. No offense intended. Some Liberals are good politicians too! I consider myself a Conservative but there is of course good people and politicians whether Liberal or Conservative. Liberal and Conservative is just a label, what counts is a person's character not his political affiliation. But I agree with you Leon on your assesment of Jean Chretien!!!

Uncle Dave, (How about I call you Dave for short) . Okay; Dave, I see your point in that there is no offical Language in the United States. But still 'most' people speak English here although like you said it is losing ground to other dialects. Before that happens I for one would like to see English "become" the official language of the US. Our Country originally was made up of people (our forefathers) who spoke English. There was some French influence and the French language was spoken to a degree - even today in Louisiana there are certain sections that speak predominately French, ie., (Cajun). But most of our predilection was and is to the English language. So because of this fact and also that 'most' people still speak English (even though many speak it as a "second" language); that I feel English is the most logical choice of an official language.

Also, if this keeps up in the United States where everybody speaks his 'native' tongue and disavows the English language I believe the result will eventually be chaos. You will need more interpreters than you can shake a stick at for one. People will be divided into there own separate language 'groups' or Ethnicity which would further alienate not only each group with the other but the Nation as a whole. And a Nation 'divided' against itself cannot stand. Btw, I think Ethnic diversity is great. Every people from every Nation and every color under the Rainbow is fine with me. But to prevent division not only on the social scale but also because of the language barriers it would create and the resultant alienation from one another because of it - there SHOULD be an "official" language IMO. And English is the language of our Roots and at the present the most spoken of the bunch so it is therefore the most logical choice for an official Language IMO.

Best regards,
Mike

KN_Fan; singing is a language in and of itself. So even though you may not speak English very well - singing breaks down the barriers of language differences and bypasses the mind and cuts to the chase or in other words - "to the 'heart' of the matter." If you've ever noticed; when someone from Great Britain or Australia (whose accents; even though they speak English, are a bit 'different' to the ears of Americans. But when they sing, they lose that British and Australian accent and their words; ie., "singing" - sound 'normal' or correct to us Americans. So even though you may not speak English fluently, your songs that you sing would most probably break down much of that 'language' "barrier" when you do sing. And since singing is a language in and of itself it really doesn't even matter! Because singing doesn't touch the mind where language is actually conceived and formulated; it touches the heart and soul.

Best regards,
Mike

.... weren't The Beatles and the Rolling Stones perfect examples of Brits (said affectionately) who sang like they were born and raised in the USA, but certainly didn't when they were speaking??? ....
... as for 'Ahnolds' accent after 30 years here, Lawrence Welk was in this country more than twice as long and never lost his accent....
t.
PS..... isn't it amazing the way these threads weave into a whole different cloth?

Any game the Lions play should be good for a laugh if you are not a Lions fan. The rest of us just cry. I must admit the Raiders on Monday night looked just as bad as the Lions if that is possible. San fransisco over Detriot by 14!

Living in Baltimore, I've had a chance to see both CFL and NFL football .

Anyone remember the Baltimore Stallions ?
Grey Cup winners . What year was that ? 1996 ?

Any other key NFL matchups this week ?

I'm getting excited about the Ravens vs. Chiefs game .

Dano

I hate to admit it, but after looking at the Eagles schedule .... I'm hard pressed to find 7 or 8 wins. We'll be VERY lucky to end up 8 & 8, I think. Dallas is starting to come together with Parcells.....it looks like the Jets may be our first win of the season. Yikes.
