Using a computer w/ 533MHz and 256MB?

Hey if it works it works and that is the bottom line. With musical instruments the musicianship is way more important than the technology when it comes down to how good it sounds. Plenty of hit records have been made using much older gear and those records still sound good.

And as for your computer it's not like you are trying to use an 8Mhz PC XT Only last year I retired a second PC that was a 233Mhz Pentium II cos it had just kept on working fine for the applications it was being used for.

Boo, you are not only really old, you are living in the past. You should dump all that stuff and start over. A few thousand of those dollars you've stuck away from laying brick and you'll be in the 21st century.
Are you coming to the jam in April?

I dunno about that Don. I still use a Roland JX8P from the mid 80s and I have yet to hear a virtual analog synth that sounds as good. New is not always better but it can be more convenient admittedly.

I like to use what sounds good to me even if that means using a mix of old and new technology.

I have been a lifelong hoarder...brought about by having lived through the WW2 years when it was considered a mighty sin to throw ANYTHING away (MAke do and Mend was the slogan!)
My house is full to the ceiling with gear I bought like 55 years ago..I live in a time warp which is quickly becoming a veritable museum of technology....My wife is alo a hoarder of kitchen things... we are looking for a larger house....

OK, I'm going to brag and say I'm the # 1 hoarder in the group. Still use a 14 year old MS 60 and a B-3 and Suitcase Rhodes on most of my jobs. Have 330 stringed instruments and my favorite amps are old tube Fenders. Restore old cars and Cushman motorscooters. This week, I'm playing a 1952 ES 295 Gibson on my jobs. Tonite I'll use a 63 Fender Jazz Bass.

I've said it before...Kentucky country ham is old, wrinkled and smells bad, but people dig the hell out of it!

Boo,

You're not old fashion you're CHEAP. You can't take it with you, you know. And your wife is so beautiful she'll land a rich guy when you're gone so spend it now. Get that Selmer Mark VI tenor you always wanted and that new Korg PA800. Are you going to make the jam in Shreveport? You know there is too much country music there and it needs some balance.

One of these days I'll get you those sax serial numbers we talked about.

Merry Christmas my friend.

Tom

boo, i was using same vintage Korg is-35 until
recent switch to roland E60..and still use it for backup. amazed to find that when starting my recording project my Neumann U-67 tube mic
i bought used for $1500 in 1989 is now worth $5000 and still considered the king. i cannot believe that with all the technological advancements nobody has made a better mic since, but engineer says it cannot be done, that nothing will ever sound that good.
