I recently purchased Yamaha's new NP-30 (great little piano). Now I'm considering ketron's SD-2 for extra sounds, but I'm not sure if I'm gonna be able to create combis. I checked the user's manual and it doesn't mention anything about it. If anyone has one and could tell me if this is possible I'd really appreciate it.

I don't see why not not. i bought two, one for a SMF player dor my laptop, and one for my midi keyboard. The sounds are excellent. I am not familiar with the NP-30, but all I do to bring up an instrument is choose a MSB(bank) and program number.

I found out later that I didn't need two and one is sitting in my studio in it's box. I would sell it for $250 plus shipping. If you don't like it, send it back within 30 days for a refund.

Hi Bernie thanks for replying. Have you created
your own combis (splits, layers)? Do you use a pc editor for this?
Do you have a paypal account If I decide to buy it from you?

I am not any software whiz, I'm afraid. I had been using an Axiom 61 controller which allowed me to layer or split with ease by configuring the zones and simply calling up an instrument for different zones, be it split or combi. That is the extent of my knowledge.

Yes, I have a paypal account

Hi Jpapas
Please remember that apart from the volume control, there are no other controls on the SD 2, which means that while its capabilities are great, how much you can use of these capabilities will be determined by your controller keyboard and/or computer software.
Hope this helps

Bill

Hi Russ
Yes,but I just got an offer from another member. I'll see how it pans out. You are a long time trusted member.

Bernie, thanks for the reply. Honor the other offer, if it suits you. If not, I'll pay $250 and supply you with my UPS number. You will just take the unit to a UPS store. They'll pack the unit; ship it and bill me. No hurry. I'll send you a check and you can wait until it clears before taking the unit to UPS.

Of course, if I buy it, I'll need your expert advice on getting it up and running, assuming that I'll ever get around to it (I'm sitting on a room full of stuff in boxes I never got around to).

Thanks,

Russ

I expect that the expert part was tongue in cheek. You must be a gear junky too. The SD2 is easily the best module I've had, and I have had a bunch from high end cards to hardware modules. The only thing close to it is my PA800. I might sell my other one if I can midi my laptop to the keyboard without losing too much control.
