Coca, I love the KN7 but it does not have much of the new technology.

1-Working with midi files is a nightmare.
2-The vocal harmony is the worst. You can use to some degree the mic. and reverb.
3-You can use the PC for some work, but again it is very limited. You must use an SD card which is no where as good as a memory stick. (USB)

The Yamaha DX7 keyboard was a desired keyboard, years past it’s birth people were still looking for them. You had to love what it did. The KN7 falls into the same category. If you love the old big band sound – accordions --- and organs, it is a winner.
If you love the way the bands of today are playing the old music then it is not the keyboard. I became frustrated with the KN7 when I attempted to play more of the contemporary music, it performed poorly, the heart was missing.

But – If your criteria is the case, you could drop it from a two story window then pick it up and then go play your job, no problem.

Now the big questions –What type of music do you play? How will you be using the keyboard? Will you be using midi files.

I hope this helps, John C.

I gotta say...that sunken keyboard looks nasty.

Hi John,

Thanks for the review. I am a beginner player. Most of my music is Ballad Pop, Latin and Ballroom type. My personal choice is always the Tyros 2 keyboard. I feel Yamaha style is fit my music the most. Gosh...I love Yamaha style but I don't like their sound compare to Ketron or Korg. I like Korg, Ketron sound but not the styles.
A friend of mine was referring me to the Technics KN-7000. He stated it is one of the best arranger of all time So I want to try it out. Do you happen to know anyone have one for sale?

Coco, If you the sounds on the Ketron or Korg and you are a beginner player and most of your music is Ballad Pop, Latin and Ballroom type, a KN7000 might be just the right choice.

Even though I'm not an owner of the KN7000, I still play it on occasion.

I like the large pop up adjustable color display.

The keyboard folds flat, nice for travel or for storage.

The human voices, do-wop, scat, choir, etc. are unbelievable.

The organ sounds are particularly good.

The keyboard can play audio (mp3's)files when using SD Jukebox

Unlike some, I do not like the operating system. While all arrangers have a default recording save as a midi file, Technics, for whatever reason, choose an exclusive Technics file format as a default recording.

The vocal harmony...well don't buy one for this feature, it's terrible.

The music stand sets back too far.

I have also played a Tyros 2, and even though I never played a Pa800, or an E-80, I would go with any of these 3 before a used KN-7000. Reason? Where are you going to go for factory support, parts, or repairs?

A great keyboard, but scary if something happens, and it needs service, plus the ridiculous asking prices that I've seen, would make the decision easy for me.

I always thought the KN7000 did SMF quite well. Aside from occasional skewed lyrics, I found no problem. As you know, you are not limited to the GM or GM2 soundsets.

Hi///I never owned a kn7000, but I did have a kn 3000& kn6500,I was in love with my 6500,so I bought another one on e-bay,when it arrived it was junk,I sent it back and thanks to pay pal I got all my money back, all I wanted was a good back up 6500,well I'm glad it was junk, I then got my pa800 and still had my technics, at first I hated that pa800,I was ready to throw it out the window a few times, just so different from the technics, well I played & worked on the korg, now I love it. I now have sold my kn6500,I really like the PA800 styles and the songbook is great... etc.I'm still learning but I like it more& more every day( I DO NOT MISS THE TECHNICS) it was a great k.b for it's time///PAULA
