I've got a jazz gig coming up and I'm going to use the G70. I'm happy with the styles either stock or tweaked a bit but for 'Take Five' all I've got is the drums in a midi file. Does anyone have a 5/4 G70 style I could use?

If you only need a 5/4 style for "Take five"..Why not use the sequence[I have a decent one I can email you]...You can set markers at verse, chorus, etc..on the G70..allowing you to do what ever you want..

I've got a good midi file for the tune but I would rather find a style. I worked on buildind a style from the midifile using the G70 but it was a bear and I finally gave up and figured I'll just play the parts on piano or split the keyboard for piano and bass. I'm doing this gig with a sax player but playing 'Take Five' on a solo gig with the style and a sax patch would be fun.

The other reason I don't want to use a midi file is because some of these jazz guys are wierd. It's bad enough I'm using an arranger keyboard but a midifile is sacrilige.

I only do these jazz gigs once and a while because the jazz people around here don't like electronics. I'm kind of an outcast. I should play this gig with just piano and sax but to me it's not as much fun I can do it no problem but I like a fuller sound and so does the audience who are not such purist. I'm not making judgements but it's what I like to do that's why I bought my first arranger last year.

Just tell the sax player to hire a rhythm section out of HIS pay! You'd be amazed at how fast they start to like the drum machine!

And he probably has no idea whether you are using style mode or a sequence with markers... He just wants to be in a full band, but not at HIS expense! Never tell them HOW you are doing anything. It only confuses them... (or encourages him to get his own arranger, and drop YOU!)

The less they know about the process, the better.

THANK YOU!!!!!! Dnj and Fran. You guys are the Best I'm playing with those styles and they are GREAT. I can usually find a style I like for songs in the G70 or use the style markup to make things passable. I think the only styles that are missing are a good Cajun, blugrass and New Orleans R&B. I am very happy with the G70 but as everyone says it is heavy.

Diki you are right. I markup the styles for these gigs so they are only bass and drums so it is like your basic rhythm section but they think because it's electronic that you can't really play. Although I probably play a lot more gigs and the folks really love it.
